I have an annual camp trip in August, up above Bishop, CA. Temps are 70H/40L, and those Burb windows let the heat "right out the window". So I was thinking about putting up some Dynamat or similar mat'l, to cover the 4' windows. Mine have the dark tint so it wouldn't look ghetto. Should make for some awesome accoustics too.
Anybody else?

Take the windows out, weld in some steel and make it a panel truck.

You actually brought up a good point for me. I hadn't even thought about heat loss with those big ole windows.

So I'm looking for suggestions on mat'l and/or installation. IIRC the windows are 17+ inches tall (its still dark out here). Some mat'l thats self adhesive, but only enough to hold itself up.
Hmm, maybe a builder's supply.

I am guessing anything you can put up there to provide a barrier between the glass and interior air would help out a lot. I remeber waking up one morning camping with a blue hand. I slept in the back of a station wagon and the temps dropped in to the low 40s high 30s. my hand was the only thing not inside the sleeping bag. Kinda scared me not being able to move it or feel anything with it.

What about pink board? you could use velcro to hold them up and then remove them later? Your idea of the dynamat would work but I would use the foil lined stuff and btw the crap is a pita to get off so make sure thats what you really want or have spare windows

that could do the trick. Are you going to adhere it to the window and leave it there permanently?
I'm willing to give it a shot. That 18X12 works because the Burb long window is just under 18" high. I'll have to measure the length to see how many pieces will cover. :wink1:

Are you worried about it being too hot or too cold? Those temps sound like short and Tshirt weather. If you are worried about cold, just get a decent sleeping bag. We snow camp all the time in 0 degree weather and do not have any problems.

What about the window films you can get for residential windows. They have Low-E properties and should be able to cut to fit.

I'm a skinny old fart, cold is cold. What works for the cold, probably works in desert heat as well.
I'd get two birds with one stone with the acoustic damping.:wink1:

What about tinting the inside of the window wiht whatever you can find cheap, then sticking up the insulation? That way, if you had to remove it, it would be easier.....

Just a thought!

That looks like the closed cell stuff like sleeping pads are made out of, but way more $$$ and not as thick. OK I know it's a little different but will you really see all the benefits in your application? If you really want something for acoustics try these guys http://www.secondskinaudio.com . I've seen the products in person, used some of them, and it's all good. But there's no reason to spend that kind of money for what you want. Just get a little creative. Go to HD or the camping store and I bet you can find something that works just as well for much less $$. Or I'll cut you some custom ones with velcro installed and you can send me all your money instead of to them, OK. J/K
