Burb chop down.

Did I not post final pictures??

Sorry guys. I haven't been around much, and haven't been checking my emails either...

So I bought a little BMW 318is. I want to go to school, and the truck was killing my paycheques between insurance and gas. The insurance was ridiculous for the truck, $484 a month... So I took it off the road.

I am either gonna sell it, or put in storage till I'm done school. But now I've been thinking of keeping it in my driveway, and buying a blazer next summer and swapping the parts over.

I don't know if I'd be able to insure the truck again the way it is... Plus I really want to roll cage it, and remove the roof, which won't help me out at all, hahaha.

So yeah, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I wish Ontario insurance companies weren't such *ssh*l*s, and the government would get in there and start governing them a little bit... It's like a legal mafia up here.

Any suggestions would be great.

As for performance, I took it on trail that gobble up my last truck, and this one spanked it. Mud up to the hood, and it still pulled through. I was very proud. And I busted a body mount to boot... hahaha.

HOW THE FOCK is your insurance $484 a month?!?!?!?!?! :eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

That's facility insurance.... I made it through 4 months of driving, and usually was out of money 3 days before my paycheque.

That's why I pulled it from the street. That's why I resorted to a 4 banger (even though it's a pretty nice little car).

Chris, I'd assumed you got into an accident or something. What did they tell you the reason for 'Facility' is?

For the benefit of others. Here in Ontario, by law you MUST have car insurance, in the least you must have liability.

(If you want to you can pass on collision which I do with all my old vehicles)

However, if you've had a high number of accidents insurance companies consider you high risk and may choose not to sell you insurance. For that reason the Provincial government steps in and 'sponsors' you. Essentially you are buying the insurance from the government and paying through the teeth.

As I said earlier, each company has their own determination as to 'high risk'. When I was younger I got screwed in this manner and paid through the teeth for years before realizing that I may not have had to.

Such is the price to pay for a young male in Ontario, depends the company too, I was quoted over 12grand a year once by state farm because they did not want me so I went with Ing they SUCKED would do nothing for you when I got married that is supost to make it cheaper, took them over a year to adjust the price.

stick it out buddy, hang on to the truck if you want it or an other truck it will cost you far more in the end then to just keep it now.

I haven't had an accident. But I have had my license suspended because I had people in the back of my pick up (the truck I owned before the suburban) with a G2 (it's legal with your G though).

But the only reason why they are putting me on facility is beacause of the modifcations to my truck. That's all I was ever told...

Yep that's BS for sure. I don't care how many companies are telling you that, that IS NOT what facility insurance is for. Keep looking!

There is a governing body overlooking insurance I'll try to find the contact info, that would be a good resource.

Just found and read this thread and wanted to say that it has given me inspiration on the body cutting I have been stalling on doing. Now my project doesn't seem as impossible.

I hope I'm not out of line responding, but I personally think that is awesome! That is what this site is all about, and it's great to see someone's enjoyment of the hobby increase through its use! There is a lot of great info and people and support on this site. Use it to its full advantage and have a blast!

I thought insurance in the states was expensive. I had removed the roof and bed from my old crew cab, moved the rear suspension 23 13/16" forward and ran without what was left of the doors half the time. Not a bit illegal and my insurer didn't have a care.

I only have the front axle, which now resides under my suburban. I front right framerail was bent and caused a lot of vibrations and alignment issues. I am currently in Iraq and all pics I have of it are on my desktop in TX.

Hell, I miss being able to sit down on my couch and watch TV. The Burb just got off roadable again a couple months before I depolyed, but I had so much to do with work that I only took it out for two very short trial runs. I am supposed to be moving to El Paso again when I get back so I see a long awaited return to Las Cruces in my future!
