Burb Painting - compressor questions

Needed to find that. thanks

Doing lots of reading in Ryoken's bible above.

Doing my best to accumulate the stuff i need to get started on this near the first of the year . Will be weather dependent.

Will pickup the compressor i bought near Christmas, and should have a nice 80 gal tank dropped off today. Will wash out the tank, do a full inspection, and get it plumbed up. Planning to mount it under the house, so will definitely add multiple safety devices. At least a new PSV on each tank. While this little compressor will have to really work to fill an 80 gal, my gameplan would be to let it fill, then spray. 80 gal at 100psi should be plenty to shoot the sections i have in mind, especially with the gun regulator down to 40psi.

I always knew Paul preached about the rollock products, but never really understood them. Now that i've got a larger tank coming, i got a small 1/4" angle grinder, to run some 2" discs.

Also figured out that there is now an Eastwood retail store in Reno. Going to go check it out, and use them for paint.

Getting nervous, but excited. Need to find the time to read all the way through the Ryoken post. Any good way to export? Going to be on a long flight, would be sweet to download.

So, I’m about 15% through reading the painting bible.
Feeling like dipping my toe into this would be wiser, before I have a stripped burb taking up my garage all winter and the $$ cars sitting outside.
I have a square body longbed pickup trailer, ol’ blue, that I could learn on first.
Way easier to fit in garage, smaller area to prep, good practice for the cost of paint

How much primer, base, clear will in need to do the outside of a longbed?

As cool as color matching my trash trailer to my truck would be, I really don’t want to paint the inside of the bed. And if i painted it white, it wouldn’t be ol’ blue anymore.

Wonder if I can find the vin on the framerail to get the factory color code….

just be aware that shooting metallic can be a bit more challenging than a solid... there are a few spray techniques to help with making it consistent looking.. nothing worse than tiger stripes...

eh, no need to shoot a metallic. Just something that is close enough to the factory color that i don't have to reshoot the inside of the bed.

And while this trailer has a special place in my heart, it's literally my utility and trash trailer. So, if metallic seems to be the best match, and it ends up striped....oh well.

Any guess on color? Or a good place to find examples of factory colors on our trucks?

a google search will show sites with lists of the factory colors available for various makes by yr... usually pretty easy to figure out which it is...

Well, got the compressor, 80gal tank, drains, and filter/water separator installed.

For what I have invested, I think it will be a solid setup. Old compressor is slow, but for low pressure spraying, 80gal at 125psi should go a long way.

What are people doing for compressor/tank drain catch cans?

I have purging air and condensate all over the place. Any good diy ideas for catching it in a way you can see if water is coming out, but not blowing water and air all over the place? Luckily, my ambient air is really dry, so doubt this will be an issue. But painting , I’ll still go purge all my drains before spraying. Thanks!

just make sure to run a new round disposable plastic inline filter right at the back of the gun and you'll be fine... they're cheap insurance...

This is what I do too. A traditional oil/water separator at the tank and a disposable at the gun.

Got it, will use the disposables. Have a permanent separator figured out also.

But, along with a well designed system, i have ~5 drains to allow any condensate to be dumped out. Where are you guys dumping it?

Some is over dirt floor, so purging onto the ground creates a dust mess.

Any condensate dump bucket suggestions that work well?
