Has anyone with a burb and rear air ever mounted speakers up in the panel that covers the AC unit? Seems like a good place for them, but would it rattle like crazy?

Doesn't it get wet inside there. I know there is a drain hose that comes off there. I have 6x9s in the stock rear speaker location. That spot up there would give you great sound though.

I don't think it gets wet in there, not sure really. I've never taken that panel down before.

I mounted a pair of tweeters in there, yes it does sound good in there, the reason i only went with tweeters is i needed more high end after the 1500 watt amp was installed that is pushin' the 2- 15" Kicker Comps :tongue1:. The side factory 4x10 locations were opened up a hair and a adapter type plate made to fit the larger 6x9's.

I have seen a Burb of a friends where the previous owner mounted something like 5.25" round speakers in that rear AC cover unit, it looked really cheasy.

Really i think the better option is just to mount larger speakers in the factory location, and even just being an aftermarket type speaker is going to get you much better sound and quality. I was blown away by the difference in just the aftermarket speakers especially the ones mountes up in the dash, HUGE difference in sound level and quality. Add a decent amp in the mix to boost the power alittle more, and it'll sound good.

Alot of times i actually run around without the subs even being powered on, (adjustable through the head-unit) and with just the side 6x9's and front dash speakers it's pretty decent sounding.

The rear speakers have never worked since I owned it (wiring). I've been driving around for years with aftermarket 3.5's in the dash. It sucks and I'm tired of it. Wally World had some Pioneer 6.5 components on clearance, I bought those and figured I could use them in the rear maybe with a small amp. I would like to have them up above the kids, rather than next to them. If it will work up there, that's good enough for me. I'd rather have function over looks.

Build a plate, and put them in the stock side panel locations. I have some high power 6x9's back there, running 100watts a channel, and you'd be blown away by the low end they are capable of. 6.5's will soudn good in teh right location, and will benefit from the "sealed" sort of enclosure the side panels provide.

6x9's in the factory side panel locations, they are deeper than the stock 4x10, so this plate made of wood and carpeted was fab'd up to make it fit.

And yes, they sound good, using that whole side panels as a makeshift enclosure.

as far as the rear ac housing getting wet, it doesn't really get "wet" as more of a condensation trail that may run through channeling designed for it and down the drain tubes, not enough mouisture to hurt anything though.
