Ok some of you may have caught my question on getting 35's on my burb and I know that there are many different senarios, so I started looking at the suspension yesterday and I have a question. Is the fron spring supposed to have some arch to it, currently it wraps over the front axel with both hangers actually sit lower than the axel, I think my springs are shot. Everything inside says that this is a stupid f'n question but hey they say find something your good at and stick to it.,

So if they are shot, how should I go about fixing, knowing that the end goal is 35x12.5 or 38x12.5 I realize that these will be different answers

1987 Burb originally 6.2L Diesel now 454 on some huge 31x10.5's

thanks in advance

The stock springs on our trucks have a "negative" arch to them. they are a frown basically. 2" lift springs are flat, 4" have a little arch to them, and it goes up from there. Your springs aren't necessarily shot because of the negative arch in them.

You probably have the original springs which should be somewhat level (when it was newer) but without pics of them it's hard to tell if they are close to stock or very worn and saggy. I would guess worn and saggy from your discription. A 4"-6" lift spring in the front will definately have some arch to it and be able to fit the lift 35". For the 38" you will most likely need 8" springs without any trimming. or 6" spring with some trimming of the fender wells.

For your second question: Since you will need new rubber and rims and a lift; possible some other drivetrain upgrades (ie lenghtened driveshaft etc) I would save money and collect the parts over the coming months and install all of them at the same time. Or maybe you have the funds now and can do it all at once. I say this as if you put the bigger lift on now without the bigger tires and rims it would look funny with 6"s of lift and 31" tires. Just my $.02.

stock springs have a reverse arch from factory. they also ride like poo. for 35's go with a 4" lift and some cutting or a 6" lift and no cutting. it will ride a lot better after lift.
