i searched and read some threads but am more confused now :doah:. i have a driveline from a 1988 3/4 ton 4wd suburban. rear end is bad and i came across a 2wd 14bff for $100 with the gear i needed so i picked it up. unfortunatly im not near the truck and was wondering if this is a direct bolt in or if i need to change spring perchs or shock mounts. heard 2wd and 4wd were diffrent.

2wd to 4wd spring perches are the same. As for the shock mounts, the only difference is that the 2wd shock mounts hang down lower towards the ground than the 4wd shock mounts. So it will be a direct bolt in.

excellent, thats what i needed to know. my truck came with a 4" lift front and rear , should i worry about the shock mounts ? will i need longer shocks ? should i cut , swap and weld shock mounts from the 4wd to the 2wd rear end ? wont see any serious off road use but it will from time to time. and thanks for the fast reply there........

Nothing to worry about really. What most people do is take off the 2wd shock mounts and put on shorter mounts to keep from hitting stumps/rocks/etc....ground clearance thing. I believe the mounts are only like 2" difference in length.
