I have a 93 Yukon, 5.7 tbi, 4l60e, 3.73, 265-75-16 tires.
The problem I am having, is, one, its burning oil, and two, it seems to run rich.
I have tuned it up for what it's worth, and replaced the egr valve, after running the codes.

I'm going to rebuild another engine I have at the house, but I'm worried that by running rich, it will wash out the cylinders and screw up the new engine.

Any advise?

are you running synthetic or standard oil?

Mine never burnt oil before, then I switched to synthetic and it blows blue every time it starts ever since is why I asked.:dunno: My other burb did the same thing. Most high milage stuff is a blend I think so may not be the same issue. I'm going back to non synthetic at next oil change.

Is it only at start-up or all the time? if its at start they told me valve seals. (not to bad). all the time i was told rings:confused:

It will smoke a lot at idle. Don't notice it at speed. Not too worried about the oil burning since I'm getting another engine, I just want to fix the over fueling problem. I'm only getting about 10 mpg:confused:

Check for trouble codes if you haven't. There is a good write up in the Injection Section. If there is nothing there are there any exhaust leaks between the engine and the O2 sensor? Also the single wire O2's sensors are a wear item and should be changed during tune up time. They get "lazy" and can give a continuous lean or rich reading. Instead of switching back in forth as the pcm adds and removes fueling. They are cheap, about $20.

No trouble codes, other than the egr, and a fixed that, and have no more codes. I didn't replace the o2 because there were no codes.
I'm hoping that maybe when I replace the engine, and quit burning oil, maybe the milage will com up. I'll go ahead and replace the o2, when I replace the engine, figured it won't do any good to do it now, just to foul it up with burnt oil..

What I really like to do, is replace the engine with a vortec motor. I have one in my 97 c 1500 and my 99 4x4 sub, and they run like hell. I found a stand alone harness for it, but I haven't figured out how to make it work with the dash. I think it's a relatively few wires, I just haven't done a lot of research on it yet. I only get 2 days off a month, so whatever I do has to be done quickly, and work right.

I just emailed westers garage, I'm thinking about using the GMPP TBI intake, and some vortec heads on this engine, I guess I'll see what they say about that.

Does anyone know how well the front diff will take 4.11 gears, or if you can even put them in there. Also, will 8 lug unit bearings bolt on to the 1/2 ton knuckles. I was thinking about putting a 14 bolt ff. if not ill go with a simi floater.

Yes they will. I did it on mine when I put my 14bolt in. I got the hubs and caliper brackets (both looked identical) and took my 6 lug hubs off and slid the 8 bolt on. Even reused my calipers.

Now that's cool. I think I'm going to get a 6" RCS lift, and run 35's. I think 4.11 gears should get it done, with this drought , I don't think I'll be muddying it, and won't be rock crawling either. Just run around looking good.
