I broke a Bolt tonight after I replaced my Ujoints. When I was putting the rear axle in. It was one of the bolts to the rear yoke... I have read years of info on this. And yes.. I have tools :) I could burn it in seconds lol. But the question is.... Is running an over sized bolt ok? And for balance, Should I doo all 4 oversized?
btw I dont have a credit card or pay pal.
Plz let me mail you the 25 bucks. ty I have dreamed for many years to wheel with you guys lol

They make kits to drill out the tapped threads in the yoke and use a strap (which is much stronger). Maybe that would be a simple fix for you?

Drilled and tapped a yoke for a rear axle last week. Took a few hours but got it done in the truck and got it tapped the same size just a bit off center. Everything tightened down well. This may be your best bet before you enlarge the hole. Also before you tap try an easy out a few bit sizes before so there is something to grab.

Make sure your threads are all clean on the other holes and the new bolts your putting in are not longer then the originals which can be the case with new bolts included in the package. Also the spicer clamps are thinner so the bolts run down further into the holes then stock anyways. The bottom of the holes are rusty and grimy from being exposed.

We need to first clear something up, if you broke a u-joint U-bolt there will be no drilling involved just push the broken portion back out the front side (there are no threads in a Yoke that uses a U-bolt). Now if you mean BOLT then you will need to drill the bolt and use an extractor to remove the broken bolt from the threads in the Yoke (this style using a strap and bolt has threads in the Yoke.

Ty you all soo much for info.
I tried to drill the grade 8 bolt and was hoping to use an easy out. But the bolt seemed too hard :( 3 bits at low speed with wd40.
As of right this very minute im typeing, lol Im puting in a free 10 bolt too save me the head ache :( lol Hoping to have it in before morning soo my truck doesnt sit any longer. shouldnt take more then 2 hours. with new brake kit, pads and drums.
Way faster and easier then drilling grade 8 hehe. ty all again.

btw. This will get it rolling at least for work, while i do the repairs on my good rear. And no headaches lol
I still wish to know how i can get a membership with out paypal, or a credit card plz??
ty

i always use hand tools and watch real slow on movement of bolts in yokes.

if need be i use heat to loosen up the rust.

then when all bolts out i always use a good tap and oil to run down the holes nice and slow to not bind and break a tap off in the hole. then i use some brake clean to rinse the crap out . add a little oil or neverseize to the threads and reinstall with hand tools.

all this comes from 20+ years wrenchin on rust belt stuff.

ty alot.. I see my problem.
I have done this many times.
I do tap my threads to clear them out,,,, but. I didnt blow them out with break clean :( Nor did I even use my air to blow em out :( Thats good adice. ty alot.
My 24 tap is only as good as the user :) lol

any hole you tap needs to be cleaned and checked for chips / junk. :doah:

at least you learned a few things today :thumb:

good luck getting tourqe wrench in there on driveline.

finger tight and tweek with wrench will hold them just fine.

Not even close lol. I use grade 8 bolts for everything i put together :( Im a fool. lol
We have a store near me called Fastenal. :) I like arp hehe

Can you snag a picture of it??? If it was sticking up enough you could weld a bolt to it, or you may be able to drill a small hole, and very carefully, and using lots of heat on it, turn it out with an extractor bit.

I cant wait to post my build thread. lol Its all back yard and its all fun. Me and my daughter for years lol.
I love CK5 :) ty all again.
