I noticed on the long, really steep hill climbs I smell burnt oil. I looked around under the truck and in the engine bay and don't see any leaking oil near the exhaust, which was my first assumption. It does dribble out the bottom of the inspection cover of the th400, which I'm pretty sure is just from all the oil sloshing against the rear main. I'm wondering if on the extreme angles its oil flowing back through the CDR and burning in the engine, only other thing I can think of. I didn't notice any blue clouds though. Anyone else have any ideas? Runs great, not extremely worried about it :dunno:

I have a parts engine ,a 6.2 out of a 1 ton ramp truck ,and when I was moving it around one day,I noticed there is a metal tube that exits near the bell housing on the rear of the block,--it appears be some kind of breather tube or a vent??..anyway,it looks to me if the nose of the truck was pointed skyward enough, some oil could flow out of that tube and into the bell housing...I'd have to look at it again to be sure which side that tube is on,been awhile since I noticed it..

I have the same problem and I figured the engine was working harder and burning stuff off the exhaust manifolds . Otherwise they stay cooler when just driving normal .

Sounds like the idiot light sender was missing on that truck, its an L shaped fitting. Drivers side, between fire wall and head. There shouldn't be any breathers on the engine lol.

I just remembered I started running a quart of 2 stroke when I fill up... I may have just been smelling that in the exhaust when I was hammering it up the hills.

No,the oil pressure switch is still there, this metal pipe or tube is below that,on the block at the rear, where the oil galley plugs and the freeze plug for the camshaft is ,in that general vicinity...wish I could post a photo of it but I dont have the means too..

It could be the 2 stroke oil you smelled,I bet thats what it was...our Caravan's 3.0 V6 drips oil onto the exhaust manifold from the valve covers ,all it takes is one drop to make a nauseating smell...but its too slow a leak to bother fixing, its a all day suck job doing valve cover gaskets on that thing,so I let it drip!..
