I guess i need to pull the 540 out & put a 22re in its place. All this parts breakage is getting expensive. Last time it was front axles & the front detroit. This time:

Yep 42" TSL's. Bad thing is they both broke within 10 minutes of each other. I broke the shaft in the V-notch on top of the Outlaw trail at Superlift ORV. backed out & tryed to take the bypass. I broke the ring & pinion on it.

Not to start anything, but do you think a 14bff would be any better? I know they are stronger than d60's. A bunch of Ford guys swap to them around here because they can't keep the 60's together.

If you are referring to his broke rear shaft his d70 is on par with a 14ff so wouldn't really gain anything in that realm.

14ff center in his front on the otherhand...

14 bolt is stronger than the 70, I've known people that switched from a 35 spline 70 rear (because they were breaking shafts) and didn't break anymore once they went to the 14 bolt.

Of course the shafts are bigger too (would be 37 spline for the 14 bolt vs. 35 spline in the 70 if cut at the same pressure angle).

Good to know, I always considered them halfway equal. Some people say the HO52/72 shafts are stronger in a 14ff but I seemed to break one this summer.

Time for a 80 then...

Im breaking the same parts. 2 sets of Dana 70 rear shafts, Dana 60 ring gear, one front shaft and one broken inner knuckle. I just broke my 2nd TH400 case last weekend too.
:woot:

th400 as in turbo hydromatic????
if so.. then i see your problem.. you didnt go SMC465!!!!:haha:

Those break too. At least the 465/205 adapters and power sleeves. I have a fix to beef up the TH400 cast aluminum cases. :thumb:

Then it is on to the next weak link.
