I am looking at a D60 for what I think a decent price. I don't know a lot about it yet. I don't have the BOM yet, but it is supposedly out of a 79 K30. It is missing the rotors and one drive flange, but otherwise complete.

I will pop the diff cover off tonight when I go look at it. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to check.

What should I be checking to make sure I don't get taken?

What kind of price?

Any advice is appreciated...

cheack that it is actualy a 60 lots of people sell a '60' but dont know enuff to look, closely, it should have stamped 60 on the flange.

onle have 3 u-bolts, and 2 bolts into the houseing, and make sure its not a 61, but if it is from a 79 it wont be..

as far as neck down shafts he mean s the shafts get smaller or 'neck down' right after the splines creating a posable week spot

Thanks

I waiting to get the BOM and whether its a SRW or DRW axle.

BTW - Nice avatar - lol

He couldn't give me the BOM, but he did say that there is a 60F stamped on the diff web. He gave me the only other number he could locate - C37986 which is the same number listed on another thread. Anyone know what this number represents?

This axle is a DRW type axle. He's asking $800.00

I did locate the measurements for the "neck down" versus the new style axle shaft though.

if it was out of a plow truck, i'd check and make sure that it isn't twisted. also the carrier bearings are notorious on spinning on the carrier , but if you're planning on replaceing the carrier , i wouldn't sweat it.
good luck.

$800 seems kinda steep with missing parts. But I geuss in that part of the country they aren't too common.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, especially for a DRW that I will need to swap out anyways.

drw is cool if you want h1s or HD wheels.... but i wouldnt pay over 500 for what you described.. honestly

800 seems a bit steap for what you described. i just picked mine up for that and its complete . 800 was actaully more than i wanted to dish out for it . i had the last guy down to 600 ..........then i backed out like an IDIOT  . but that wasnt the first dually 60 that i came across for around that price . i would put some more thought into it:laugh:

Az, i know where there is a srw D60 hub to hub for $600, and its in really good shape, but youll hafta do something for me... HAHA.. nate

Nate or AZ, if you guys pass on the 60 let me know. I need one for my project as well. My e-mail is [email protected]

Dan

Hey Dan -
I sent you the guys info for the DRW dana 60 I was looking at, did you get it? If you are interested, there is a used truck parts place on 35th and Broadway that has 4 Ford dana 60's. 602-243-6002 - Ask for Marcos or Jodi.

I'm giving up on the dana 60 for a while. I am going to run the setup I have for a couple of years. BUT...

If I just happen to come across a donor truck with what I'm looking for...:D

Sent my flat top knuckles off to Parts Mike today to be machined and set up. I picked them up 7 or 8 months ago with the intent to do crossover.

Do you know how much he wants for the ford dana 60s, and if they are balljoint front ends, or kingpin? Also do you know about what year?

Dan

Also 79, can you e-mail me again the info, and maybe the info on the one you were going to pick up. I had got the e-mail, but when I went to go look at it here, it isnt there anymore.

Dan
