If all goes according to plan, it looks like I will be able to buy a new truck in the next few months. I'm looking towards an '07-'08 Chevy half ton extended cab 4x4 around $20,000.
My first range of questions simply lies with what do you think I should look out for? I'm curious as to how the push button 4x4 works, and its reliability. Is it simply a servo in the transfer case that engages the front wheels when activated? Is there any sort of delay (the wheels having to make a full rotation) before it is engaged, like old auto-hub chevys? Is the front driveline always engaged or electronic locking hubs or something? Anyone have a schematic? I like the floor mounted shifter in the LS models, but they're not as common and there are some nice goodies in the LT package.
Second, what can I expect as far as price negotiation? Since the economy is the way it is I don't know how lenient dealers are with their cars. Of course I'll turn my 'swag' on to shimmy down the price, but what is a realistic amount they would come off? Anybody have any recent experience with this, or just general knowledge of it?
Finally, what can I expect from General Motors? I'm referring more to like warranties. If they are bought/sold with different people running it, will the warranties I get when buying one be honored? Seems to me to be competitive they couldn't afford screwing over a bunch of their customers that hard. Let's please not focus on this point entirely
. Thanks for the help.
P.S. I know there are a lot of haters of newer trucks, including/especially Chevys, even in a Chevy forum, but I'm pretty set on this. I'm most familiar with them and have always been a Chevy person. Thanks again!!
