Buying a truck for all around use. EDIT: lots of truck pics added

Damn that's clean as hell. Doesn't look like anyone ever towed with it. Co-pilot looks pretty comfortable and ready for a ride!

Thanks! Yes it is! And I could not be happier. But! Not gonna lie, it feels too good to be true. Don't get me wrong. I paid for it. That wasn't my concern. It was the quality of the truck. And it checked out. But I still honestly feel weird about it. I have some suspicions. But I lso paid for a bumper to bumper becuase of it. If it stayes as it is, and should be if it truly is this clean, regardless of price, I scored a clean fairly unused rig. The undercarriage is as clean as expected for 48k. In my opinion more so. I'm sure the used truck dealer pressure washes the living crap out of them, but you can tell how well they do from the nooks and crannies. You can only do so much pressure washing before you ruin electrical of course.

My dog, no way he's jumping up there. So I put him up, with my going numb arms, mainly the right arm from shoulder issues. But he/it's worth it. Going to change these gay semi blacked out tail light lenses for sure.

This truck was the 235,533 truck produced.

One thing to think about. All those items you don't like, you could probably sell on Craig's for enough to buy a set of factory tail lights/ better looking rims. No sense painting over them when someone else could appreciate them for what they are and you could get something better. Just a thought.

Gotta admit I'm not a fan of the lifted dually thing but it looks like you found a gem! Always loved these trucks wish I could afford one.
I'm sure you are way ahead of me but I seriously recommend carrying a spare fuel filter and possibly even a spare water sensor for the filter as they have very fine wires that are easy/prone to breaking. They are kind of a pain to change on the side of the road but not as big as a pain as limp mode haha

I was even thinking of after I have it detailed and the rims are cleaned up and lookig nice, taking it a local Performance Tires shop. There's one a minute away that always has custom cars and lifted trucks coming in and out of that tires shop. Maybe they will swap a set of wheels and I pay some differential. Shouldn't be a liability issue since these wheels are prestine, no dings or rim gouges. They can sell these just the same as new. Not as new of course but these will sell if someone is looking for them.they are clean.

I prefer a non dually as far as looks go, but I do like the dually lifted look as long as its not insane how lifted it is. This is the biggest I would ever want to go. Had this lift Not been installed and the truck was still bone stock, all I would have done was a level lift up front. And little larger tires on the stock wheels. Infact, this life may even have to be removed. I want to back my truck into my roolup door to unload the truck camper inside my shop in its raining. I want to keep it garage kept as much as possible to help make it last far more many years then it would sitting in the harse sun 24/7.

Thanks for the twch tips too. I will get and keep those items with me. Going to do as much learning up with this thing as possible. There is a UTI Institute 1 minute away from my shop. After I complete going back to my machine trade school, I want to look into taking a course in diesel automotive there. Or just general auto repair so I can learn up on morern electronic vehicles. I have been behind the times far too long. I joined the diesel place web site as well. Actually a member since 2010, but never had a diesel, so no point in posting. Will now.

Id recommend a aftermarket lift pump, I have a air dog 2. finer filter, seperate water separator and it removes all the air. Your cp3 pump(high pressure fuel pump) has to suck fuel from the tank, and then ramp it to 27,000psi. A lift pump will put it at the back of the Cp3 with 10psi, much easier on your cp3, better for your injectors, better filtration. I deleted my oem fuel filter. The air dog filters down to a finer particle then the oem so it wasn't doing anything And it started to leak.

Cutting the inner fender on the passenger side and making a cover flap makes Changing filters much easier.

The construstion company I work as a mechanic for runs almost all Chevy's this era in our fleet, they are great trucks! I also strongly suggest you run a premium additive EVERY tank of fuel, we use power service in the white bottle or another one called stanydyne? IIRC and I know they offer a summer and winter additive.

A few other small quirks to look out for on these trucks is the ifs stub shaft seals are prone to leaking and the stub shafts do not like to come out usually last few I've done I ended up removing the diff and cutting the driver side shaft with a porta band and disassembling the diff to get the shaft out WHAT A PITA!! over a seal leak

over time the chain in the transfer case tends to stretch like any chain and wears a hole in the case (where I'm at its best to get new ones from GM I think the last time we got one they had the best price at about $1600ish plus they come with warranty and even stock them ha!)

The only other issue that I have encountered one time was the prnd switch (I think it's called) on the Allison went haywire and put the truck in limp mode coming back from snowmobiling with 40ft enclosed in tow (I'm guessing water intrusion) but we were able to put it in 4low and make it the rest of the way home so that one saved our bacon.

Hope I haven't bore you with my info, I don't claim to be an expert at anything but that's the experience that I have generally had.

Hay gents, I appreciate all the info I can get on this truck and the typical quirks these vehicles tend to have. Looking forward to getting this thing dialed in and ready for the truck camper pick up road trip.

Thank you very much brother, appreciated :). I feel sooo Fing fortunate to have found such a truck, seriously. How the F did I...ME of all people manage to fall in to what is basically my dream truck. Its beyond me. And when some how I have the funds to pay for it out right. I just hope it is everything it seems to be up front so far. One thing I am surpised my mechanic said was ok, and "the way the pedel is, there is no adjustment". I told him the brakes needed checking as the brake pedal had a lot of stroke before you get braking to the truck.

Also the emergency brake almost touches the floor. That can't be right. I sure drive this truck very mellow because the brakes takes a moment to come on compared to my little focus. Of course thats oranges and apples though. That things stops on a freaking dime seriously. The best brakes I've ever felt on the car. I leave Plenty of room between me and the cars in front of me driving the truck. This thing feels sooo much more Huge then my 2000 old body style crew cab (92' to 2000 crew cab) 4x4 1 ton long bed SRW. It of course had the 454 and 4l80e. I just did a torsion lift and wheeles and tires. Ran 33 10.50's. Truck looked clean and nice. This Duramax only has 33's as well, but it's got a lift. I love the size of the truck. Its setup just rigbt to me for my use.

It is a little taller then I like for utility use but I love the look. My kid loves it too. So not changing it. Feel Sooo much more safe driving it over the focus of course. Its too tall to back the camper into my shop, but I just bought that truck camper dolly cart for a mear $100 bucks. Its clean and rolls great. Problem solved. What Fing luck right?!?! Insane! Next is just go get the camper, then I'm set up. Need the forklift more then ever now. Going to look into monthly lease one so I can get to organizing my shop to make room for my truck. Want it in doors as much as possible. Camper can sit on the dolly unless I want or need to use it.

Sounds like things are falling in to place for you, happy to hear that! And I'm sure with regular maintence and up keep the truck will provide you with years of reliability
