found a 76 k20, is it a 44 or a 10 bolt and would it have flat tops?

4" lift 350-350-203 37's with 4.10's

It should be a D44 with flat top knuckles, but depending on the history of the truck a different year front axle could have found it's way in there.

I forget the rule of thumb for D44 vs. 10 bolt placement, but I have seen several 1980 1/2 and 3/4 tons with D44's up front. GM would use whatever they had on hand. Only SUREFIRE way is to go look.

I have seen flat tops on 10 bolts. A friend of mine had them on a 1987 10 bolt. He bought the truck in stock trim so I doubt someone swapped them. Go look under the truck

:confused::confused: Id be willing to bet someone broke a knuckle or you didnt know what you were looking at. No stock 10 bolts came with flat tops

'76 will have the flat tops. This year is the "first design" axle. The "second design" started in mid-'70.

10 bolts are "second design" also. You won't see them in '76 unless it was swapped in.

Another 'plus' is the D44 in the K20's have 1/2" thick tubes pressed into the pumpkin and outer C's.
