eghey rig.... is it nuts? I know plenty of people that do it without much issue, but....

I'm talking purchase, ship across the country kinda thing... basically you have no recourse... obviously a good/amount of ebay rating is a big tell.. right questions, fair price, ton of pics, etc...

I think I can get a rig shipped here from most of the lower 48 for $1000 to $1400... that's for those shipping companies the next step up from the "U-ship" cheap shipping...

so obviously, yes, I have to factor that into the cost... and no, I wont fly out and drive it back...

just been finding a ton a fair distance away that are nice, and not seeming so "hoopty"...

CL has had some decent ones, and that's getting a big eye from me... but I do see some damn clean trucks on the ghey...

some of the more "reasonably priced" rig's I've been seeing... or at least, very clean rigs....

love the body on this one....

but body/paint condition is least important... unmolested, 5 spd, under/around 200,000... hoping for quad cab...

really what I think I want is a quad cab dually... end up with something like this with a tube bed, different bumper... probably do 35's...

funny thing is, I'm contemplating just a rear winch, incorporated into the tube/service bed...

Have a local check it out (CK5'er)....I think there is a warranty option available on egay...have you checked into that...not sure how it works though. Other wise the seller rating should help a little, and the more a truck is modified, I think it throws a flag up.
As usual maintenance records would be a great help, along with a log of any mods...perhaps a Vehicle history report could help some too.

I bought my Blazer off E-Bay. It was in Nevada, had a lot of pics, the seller had good feedback, and he worked with me on the shipping. I shipped it back on DAS, not a good experience for me, but others have done OK with them. Cost about $650 in 2005. Was the truck "just as advertised" ...no, but was close enough.
Just be aware of regulations regarding registration from state to state. Texas has some quirky laws, and it took some time to get it registered here. But all worked out and I'm happy.

YES...make them scan and email you a copy of the Title before you do the deal....make sure that the title has not been written on in the transfer ownership section or it's worthless.

Not to air too much of my deal when I bought my Blazer from a CK5 member, but the owner was in Texas, the truck was in San Diego in a friends custody and the Title had not been transferred from the original owner...plus the title was already written on in the transfer section.

I'm dang lucky I live in a "non-title" state...Alabama does not require a title, nor will they grant a title for a vehicle older than 1975...all they require is a Bill of Sale.

But, I did get that title scanned and I ran the VIN through the local Police Dept before I did the deal....that will show if it's either stolen or has been used in a crime...just to CYA.

Just a note: The State of California took a $375 fee from me to "transfer the title" and then backed out on me and kept the money...they said unless I got the original owner to come in and sign the document they wouldn't transfer the title...they said that the original owner never filed the necessary paperwork to tell them he had turned the vehicle over to somebody else and there was like 4 years of some kind of fees that was owed to the State of California that added up to like $1200 and there would be no title until I paid it. :doah:

Let me set the record straight, I have no beef with the guy who sold it to me...he was stationed in Texas and couldn't do anything about the situation but the original previous owner was just uninterested in helping...I had to pay a remote Notary Public to drive to his house twice and get his signature on the original, original bill of sale and Notarized that he indeed sold the vehicle.

So, the lesson is....make absolutely sure there are no issues with the Title...looks like New Jersey requires a Title http://www.dmv.org/nj-new-jersey/title-transfers.php

yeah, clean title is a must... great idea on the scan...

i'm guessing having him mail out the title certified immediately after payment would be the smartest, get it in-hand...

I'm not ruling it out, we'll see what comes up in the next couple months....

my buddy has the older body style 04 24 valve cummins, 2500 extended cab 4x4 with about 100k on it for sale. 10k

you can use an Escrow Service to act as the go between for you both....you send the escrow company the money and they don't pay until the truck is on it's way to you and they have the Title in their hands and mail it to you.

great info.... :D

great info.... :D

Your bank may offer this service as well....your bank may contact his bank...you set up a wire transfer...they don't do it until he brings the title in and turns it over.

or you can do what I did....I trusted the guy...I sent him half the money certified mail...along with my Notarized part of the bill of sale.

He sent back the Title (even though invalid) and his part of the bill of sale which was Notarized.

I contacted a trucker...he phoned me when he had the truck on the trailer and I immediately sent the other half of the money to the seller.

Good God...I can't believe I went through all that...wait...yes I can....that's how bad I wanted a 1974...

Find one out here and I will drive it out for ya! you pay fuel and my trip back home!

Probably less expensive to ship it really.

In all seriousness if you do find something out this direction I am always up for a recon trip

I bought my 1992 Wrangler on Ebay because I got a good deal on the drive train. If you ask specific questions and the stated answers don't match reality Ebay has some quarantines.

Has it been in an accident?
Is the frame solid?
Does it leak oil or fluids?
How much oil does it burn between oil changes?
Can I drive it ____ miles home?
Will it pass a safety inspection?
