Well I found myself a k5 , and am going to nebraska to pick
it up this sunday. Driving my friend's 01 Dodge
3/4 Cummin's with a U haul trailer out there to get it.
He offered and it will save me around 100 buck's over gas
So I am happy. Here are pic's and the description of the truck .

1987 Chevy Blazer Full Sized K-5. It has a Fuel Injection 350 (5.7L) V-8 that runs great with tons of power. It always starts right up. I used this truck is used primarily for MUDDING and 4 WHEELING, but I don't have the time anymore. It is street legal and I drive it to work occasionally, however it is not currently an efficient daily driver. Below are the options and features of this K5, followed by the problems/negatives -350 Fuel Injection Engine with no oil leaks/runs great - ALL WORKING GAUGES/NEVER OVERHEATS/GOOD OIL PRESSURE
-Fiberglass Top is REMOVABLE. Just take out a few screws and lift the top off to have the back completely open! Nice in the summer heat!!
-Bench Seat in the Rear Allows up to 5 person seating (Removable)
-3/4 Ton Chevy Axle upgrade with 4.10 gear ratio - 8 Lug
-GM 14 Bolt FULL FLOATER Rear and Dana 44 Front (FF means the rear axle shaft can be removed without removing the wheel and axle assembly)
-Axles were almost completely rebuilt when I installed them last year. Gaskets, bearings, seals, fluid, ball joints, U-Joints, U-Bolts, Wheel Studs, Front and rear brakes (NEW ROTORS, CALIPERS, AND MASTER CYLINDER)
-Incredible braking ability
-Extended braided brake lines for extended wheel travel.
-6 inch Rough Country Suspension Lift with Leaf Springs (not blocks)
-35X12.50X15 BF Goodrich Mud Terrain Tires with plenty of tread left
-15X10 rims by U.S. Wheel (8 Lug)
-Automatic tranmission (4 SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE)
-New Superwinch Manual Locking Hubs
-Shift on the Fly Transfer case with 2H, N, 4H, and 4L
-Custom Dual Exhaust installed in 2006 (True dual straight pipes with two glasspacks - sounds great)
-Front Tow Hooks/Grill Guard/High Lift Jack Mounted
-Class 3 Receiver Hitch
-All lights/wipers/signals etc. work correctly and are street legal
-FULL SIZED 35" SPARE TIRE
-Power Steering, Power Brakes, Tilt Wheel, and Cruise Control.

PROBLEMS
-Considerable amount of rusting (including a couple body mounts)
-Small vibration at certain speeds due to rear drive shaft angle (caused by being lifted)
-Rear window does NOT roll down. It is attached to the fiberglass top.
-Rear tailgate rusted out. I replaced it with the sheet metal off of the tailgate. not completely air tight, but keeps out the water and the critters
-Bad seal in the yoke coming out of the transfer case- leaks a drip of transmission fluid every now and again. DOES NOT LEAK A MEASURABLE AMOUNT. Only a few drops if the truck is parked on an incline. I never have to add tranny fluid, its always got enough. It has been parked in my driveway in the same spot for 6 months and only a couple small drops.
-Tons of body damage - Scratches, Dents, Dings, Rust Spots, and some broken pieces.
-U shaped crack in windshield appx. 8" X 5" has been there for at least 4 years and has never grown or cracked any further.

This truck makes a great off road toy, winter vehicle, mudder, and can be used as a daily driver. The gas mileage isn't as bad as I thought it would be, somewhere around 15 city. Tons of power and good acceleration.

John,

I just checked to see if the Blazer will fit on a Uhaul Auto Tranport and it does not. It weighs to much.
AT - Auto Transport (Not Recommended) Reasons related to vehicle being pulled
1.
Vehicle weighs too much to fit on auto transport.
Rental Requirements:
-
Use alternative towing equipment.

All I can say is that when you pick up the trailer just say you are pulling a s10 of the same year.

Just my .02 cents.

That's fine just dont tell them it's k5 :).

just make sure that when you load it up that the trailer is not sitting close to the tires.

as for as the k5. It sounds like the one i just bought for $100.00 3 weeks ago. It does not look to be in that bad of shape. Have fun!

Hey I like the sound of that. U want a york a/c compressor? I know where there's two long stroke models in a junkyard. 1 for you 1 for me

well i think the junkyard wants 35 bucks for one. They are both on late 70s volvos which I read somewhere on here nearly all volvos had the long stroke.

They are both v-belt though so u would have to get a diff pulley, although I saw a guy on pirate that had his v-belt pulley machined to accept a serp belt.

Also My boss gave me a york he had lying around from an old 78-79 ford truck he used to have. It is also v-belt and its short stroke. But I dont know if anyone uses short strokes or if they just dont put out enough cfms

well next time i go I will grab both. There's another junkyard thats got 2 yorks also. Ones on a ford truck and the others on a jeep grand wagoneer but I dont know what stroke either one is, both v-belt though
