Do body shops get a discount on paint, I want to use PPG deltron 2000 to repaint my burb. The paint is $364 gal and the clear is $190 gal and catalist is $87 plus thinner and stuff. I was thinking if they do i could have a body shop order it and split the difference with them. Or can I just tell them I am a part time painter?
Let me know what you guys know.
Thanks
Tarey

well, bodyshops, with a tax id are gonna get their standard list price plus 10% usually.. highly doubtful they're gonna cut you in on their profits..

For that kinda coin, I'd buy Glasurit...

i worked for a body shop and no we didn't get a discount on paint. as ryoken said they will mark up the price most likely depending on the shop. if the truck is going to be a woods beater i would use shop line clear since its a little cheaper a gallon. what color are you going to paint it?

The place I called was automotive refinish supply, they sell paint mixed to what color you want. I figured body shops have to buy from them,
so body shops buy a lot of paint and have to get it cheaper.

I'm going to paint it PPG 4146 light blue poly. It is the factory color on my 2 tone paint. I want the good clear cause it is in Arizona heat and sun and it is not going to be a trail beater.

well, it seems you've made your mind up..

Any factory color is available in any manufacturers base/clear systems.. it's just a weight formula... whether PPG, Dupont, Glasurit, etc...

body shops are not buying "premade colors", well, any real bodyshop.. you have a tint machine and weigh out your own formulas.. heck, Chrysler ice blue has 13 variations, depending on what plant it was made in, etc, etc...

Just for the record... You will not find a higher quality paint than Glasurit.. Thats the only reason I suggested it since your willing to buy a quality paint.. It is top of the line, best across the board imo... best high solids clear eva... Good enough for Mercedes, BMW, good enough for me...

I just use my work tax id, when I get paint from my autobody supplier.. they've known me for years.. might be worth finding your local supplier (yellow pages) and stopping in for a chat, whether a PPG, Dupont, etc dizzy.. Most of the time, they sell multiple lines to some extent..

On a related note... catalyzed, quality paint has dramatically increased in price the last 5 years or so...... hazardous shipping increases have probably caused alot of this.. thanks EPA...

I like PPg paint, have a couple of other vehicles painted with it. My friend that is going to shoot my burb likes PPG too. He just painted this truck for me so I could sell it with a white pearl. It's a 86 with a 91 front end with about 14in. of lift and 1 tons with 513s and lockers front and rear. Turned out real nice but i just can't keep another truck. It's back in Ohio and I'm here in Az.
