Ill be buying sheetmetal to replace the dside floor and rocker of my pickup. I see the floor and rocker, but what about the hump the bench seat mounts on over the fuel tank? Am i goingto need to fab there or is there another source? The rust is starting to creep up that. And im just looking into welding but im probably going to cut out the metal and cut the replacements slightly bigger, so i can place them over the edge of the original metal to make welding easy. Can i do that with the rocker too or will it **** with the door closing properly? Welding edge to edge seems like it would be a lot harder. And any other sources of pre-formed sheet metal? Thanks guys.

if you dont cut out the rocker completely it will sit up higher than the original rocker and mess up the door closing all the way.i tried to do what you are saying and had to re do it so it fit correctly and allowed the door to close properly.you could do what a lot of people do and put in 2x6 box tubing in place of the rocker to make sliders also.i dont know if you are going for original look or just want to get rid of rust.i dont think lmc does the seat hump replacement pieces.it would be nice to get the whole seat and footwell area as one piece and just replace it all at once.ive only seen it as a 2 piece kit from chevy duty.i think they are classicparts.com now.

Can i weld the new rocker patch under the old metal so it wont leave a lip? I know mig welding directly next to each other is hard, normally you want one edge above or below the other right?

Have you given consideration of lightly hammering down the edges and welding it where it would be flush like the original metal. it might need a tad of filler but would work

I would but weld everything, if you layer it thats many more places for moisture to hide and it would rust out that much faster. IMO.

Yeah im going to weld it completely, just from doing my research i see its harder to weld edge to edge because of lack of material, most overlap the edges. Just dont wanna screw with the door clearence
