what should be the most i shell out for used because of the risk??

you will never know if it is good till you put it in.first off pull the dipstick and look at the fluid for darkness and or burnt smell.second pull the pan and look for sludge, metal particles,or anything else that may have made its way in there.good luck:wink1:
edit:i would not pay more than a couple hundred bucks for it if it looks ok.remna at parts store is only a few hundred more.but i know how it is to be on a budget.

good clean red fluid no burnt smell .

then test drive it !!! or dont wast your time. get a fresh reman or just dont do it.

have you priced a reman th350 at the parts stores ? thay seem to hold up good. and come with fresh convertor and can of flush. with good warrentys.

auto mechanics opinion here that works with the stuff day in and day out.
