This will be my 1st winch and i just dont want to hand over the cash without being shure. Im going to take a battery to make sure the thing works but other than that im winch dumb.

how much is it? look for frays on the cable and make sure it works. if it doesnt work id pay 100 for it. i payed 200 for the one i got and it works. no wrench marks on it so it hasnt been messed with. build date is march of 1985. i think i got an amazing deal.

Well sh!t kinda raining on my parade i was gunna give the guy 400 and its on a tube bumper. I could care less than about the bumper but its a package deal. I think its from the late 90s but i wont know until i get a look at the serial #.

I have a friend selling one right now and he's asking $650.00 for his. At $400.00 that is a steal if it works as those winches are now going for anywhere from $1400.00-$1700.00 depending on where you look.

Thats why i love this place i couldnt find any other used ones around here to compare price and in less than 10 minutes i get at least an idea.

Any opinoins on 1/2 inch cable. From what i read it came with 150' 3/8 cable this guy says he wound 75' 1/2 inch cable.

Nothing wrong with thicker cable other than it is harder to deal with and you don't get as much on the spool.

$400 is a good deal if it's not trashed... You may even be able to re-sell the bumper and recoup some of your money...

As long as it goes in and out you should be fine... Most of the time the solenoids are what goes out and it wont work in one direction...

I wouldn't worry about the cable, I've seen it for really cheap or free because someone is upgrading to rope...

Ill probobly notch out the grill and get it as close to the core support as possible. Or maybe a hidden winch :D

good luck getting that hidden.. it's been done, with frame notching, but not nearly as easy as 8 to 9.5 winches...

the 12k does not fit in the rails. and it sticks out alot. its an inch away from the core support here. i cut out 2x3 block off the driver frame rail.

Think I may like to go rope as well. Ive read alot of good thinks about it but have broke tons of tow and jerk straps (i know strap and rope are completly diffrent) and it makes me nervous.

I run with a lot of guys using rope and haven't seen any issues... I hate cable, it's hard to deal with and will tear you up in a heart beat...

I haven't had a chance yet to test my rope... Maybe this weekend...:woot:
