I just ordered a rebuilt rear end for my 89 Jimmy, with the G80 posi. Trying to install the new axles I bought, it doesn't seem like there's enough clearance to install the C clips, I've pushed the axles as far in as they'll go (butted up against the block).Do these posi carriers take smaller clips? My old rear was open so I never worked with one of these. Carrier is also marked "GM 8.6", not makes a difference. Here of some pictures:

Can the side gear be pushed toward the out side, ei is it spring loaded.
I don't have much 10 bolt g80 experience.
If it moves and the slot is accessible, then clearancing the horse shoe clips out side to fit.

No such luck, it's in there stiff. Neither the new or old axles will fit (they're both 30 splines but the old ones are about 0.050" smaller on the diameter and won't even engage the splines on the inside). I'll probably send the guys a message who made it asking what model the carrier is and if I gotta get different axles for it.

Do you have the big pin in place?
You need to remove it to push the shaft in.
