I’ve been eyeballing rampntrucks for a while. Really want something stout enough to tow the Jimmy around.

there is a dual axle beaver tail ramp truck for sale near me. It’s got a 454 and 13 speed trans. It’s big enough for a back-hoe or two.

problem is I don’t know what to look out for on this big trucks. I hear steering pumps etc., what else are problem areas?

really considering getting it and painting it to match the Jimmy. Thanks for the advice.

unless swapped in 454 its NOT that .

its a 366 or 427 tall deck engine .

what is your state rules for the med duty stuff ? you might need CDL on your license

and these old girls dont like more than 60 mph and brakes are kind of a thing of hit or miss for real road time use these days . all drum stuff on them .

Looks like overkill for a K5 tow rig... I would buy it if the deal was too good to be true

I used to drive an International 4700 flatbed tow truck, the bed would slide, tilt, and break... had a heavy duty winch... and a stinger. Yet I still wouldn't buy one as an occasional tow rig

Was thinking of hitting him at $2500 because with this virus times are tough lol

Yeahs it’s GVWR is 45,000. Dude said you don’t need a CDL. That was my first question.

and if your towing stuff thats NOT yours your making money and need dot / and other #'s on the truck and subject to dot checks and hassles .

you need a good 3/4 ton or 1ton and a 10k trailer with ramps and winch . even then you might need a cdl for the combo together .

and if its a swapped in 454 it wont live long under these conditions . any pics of the engine ?

if you needed to re-tire this rig with 10 new tires even super cheep china tires your going to be at his asking price just in tires . and dot checks date codes on tires in a lot of states and if to old you done time for new .

Tall deck 454s [10.2 deck height vs standard 9.8 deck height] were produced and installed in medium duty trucks and busses. A tandem axle truck would be pretty much overkill for your described needs/wants.

never seen or read about a tall deck 454 . they were 366 or 427 . i have been learning a lot on them when i was looking for a super specific 366 for my dump truck . so unless i missed a LOT of info then prove it .

Don't get a tandem axle.
All you need is a single drive axle.
You can get one that's 26000 lbs.
This one is expensive to maintain and too big for what you need.
I am removing one drive axle from my big rig to make it better, but I already have mine.

There would be no reason to think a 454 wouldn't live in a truck like that for hauling your rig around. We had one in the c60 dumper for YEARS on the farm. With ZERO problems. And we used it ALOT.

While the accs drive could be a medium duty item the dual t-stat housing is a tall deck exclusive.
