I just bought a dana 60 and 14 bolt from a '78 cab & chassis and would like to use the hubs from my '93 C2500 14 bolt to make it SRW. I would also like to take the rotors and calipers from the front of the '93 and get rid of the drums. will this work?

Yes, it should. Except you'll need looong bolts and spacers for the disc brackets, as they'll want to be 2" closer to the WMS than the flanges welded to the axle.

You can also get flanges from Kert @ DIY4X.COM and weld them on closer to the outside.

I will be welding new flanges to the axle so that will not be an issue, I was more curious about the 2wd rotors fitting onto the hubs.

I think if you are going to weld new flanges, that the rotor should work as long as it is compatible with the needed caliper. I used the 79 K20 front caliper and rotor on mine. The rotor is 12.5 diameter, and 1.3 thick.

Oh, missed that part. Not likely that they'll fit. Pretty sure the 2WD stuff is different than the 4WD.

I was thinking they may work, because the rotor is a hat only, not internal bearings, or is that not the case?

Would it make more sense to take the 4.56 gears and carrier out of the '78 and put it into the '93 housing (4.10) that has good drum brakes?

I believe that would make the spring width a bolt in if you did that, although the shock mounts hang down on a 2WD.....I am doing that with my 14BFF right now, except the 4.56 gear set I got from a C&C the pinion was cracked. Also check you pinion shims before dis-assembly for a starting point on the 2WD housing.
Check out the Moby Dick build to see what I've been through on mine.

A little off the subject, but I have a related question.
I just got some hummer beadlocks and a set of dually outers for my dana 60 to compensate for the massive amount of offset.
Can you take parts of a 14 bolt dually and put em on a srw axle to make em wide enough to match the front?

Narrower huh? Makes no sense, but I'll buy it. Never having messed with a drw setup myself. Maybe I'll look into that van axle idea. I'm ok with it being narrower than the front (I could use all the help with turning radius I can get) but stock srw and dually front is too much of a difference.

NOPE, My bad, I was thinking C&C axle (like from a wrecker).....if you use a DRW (the type that would be on a K30 dually) that would be the widest you could get....72"WMS.
A Van would be 70" WMS

To make un-modified H1's work with a front DRW D60, you need a D70HD rear from a dually truck (Not a cab & chassis) Switch the hubs to SRW 14Bolt FF. You can also recenter the wheels and run SRW axles. DIY4X has the parts you need for the disc conversion:D

DRW D70HD + SRW 14FF hubs = 77.5"
DRW D60F = 77"

what does wms stand for

and whats the wms for a 14 bolt ff srw from a truck?

Oh sh*t. I forgot the duallys are Dana 70s. That really throws a monkey wrench in my plans. I just bought a detroit for the 14ff, I don't really want to get my wheels re-centered, and I could care less about disc brakes unless that conversion pushes the wms out.
I've never had issues stopping due to hydro boost.
I'll measure the new wms to wms on the front and look into a van 14ff with minimal spacers, do the math and see where that leaves me.

Am I right in thinking I could take the 4.56 gears and carrier from the '78 and put them in the '93 4.10 housing? I guess what I am asking is, is there a difference between a '78 and a '93 14 bolt ff housing.

yep, there is a difference. Not sure what all changed but I do believe sometime after your 78 was born, they added a 3 bearing on the pinion. Something like that. I don't beieve the gears will swap.

I think you can do that swap, I am putting an 85 carrier in a 79 housing, and everything fits fine (Once I get a new set of gears) I believe the 3 bearing pinion is in all of the 14BFF (only 10.5 ring gear, not 11.5). In 85? they put more ribbing in the housing, and the pinion bearing changed to a different outer dimension, but still the same internal dimension.

did you check my post or the 14 bolt bible on Pirate 4x4?
