Where'd you get the sheet metal?

Outter rockers - www.absautosupply.com $10 ea
Inner rockers - homemade
cab supports - Tabco $18 ea
floors - sheet metal from my red c2500..
Cab corner - Tremco $18 ea

Right fender - canfield swap $15
Left fender - A&C auto parts $50
right door - canfield swap $100
left door - A friend that makes trips to texas $150

I have a small junkyard in my attic in my barn...
I just raided it...for everything else. :D

Thanks! I'll need some new rockers here soon. Did the ones from ABS seem decent? Fit okay, etc?

I put a used 1/4 panel on Big red...about 4 years ago.
I just saved the old sheet metal...and used it for patches.;)

The fit on ABS's rockers...is close to factory...
They're the best I've used. They are PPG E-coated..too. :thumb: :thumb:

Nice pics. Where did you start? I have the same problem. I need to replace the floors(both sides), inner and outer rocker panles, cab corners, and cab supports. Did you have to make any custom parts? I can get almost all the parts but I do not know where to start as far as what piece to weld in first.

Have you considered just buying a new cab? There's a place nearby here that'll sell an entire cab for $700. Might be worth it if you really care about how the end result looks and factor in your time.

I plan to patch mine up, but I've accepted that it's going to be a beater. I just want to patch the hole in the floor so I don't step through it or die from diesel exhaust while driving.

I want to buy a new cab but the truck will be a beater. I don't know if it worth the time and hassle of welding new stuff on or buying a new cab. I will drive the truck on the street from time to time but mostly off road.

Where to start....

Well first...
I mount a door...and rebuilt hinges...get the door to close nice.
In some cases..a com-a-long is needed to PULL the A and B pillars together.
After you get the door to close...next you weld in a temperary brackes between the A and B pillars...
Now you can start cutting the rusted metal..and remove it from the cab.
Next...I grab the new outter rocker...and fit that..so there is a nice gap at the bottom of the door....tac in place..

Now that the outer is in...you can slip the inner rocker...tac-it...
then go to the cab support...and get it welded it..

Then last...is the floor...
I never weld the floor in...until the door shuts nice.

So....You basically start from the OUTSIDE...and work your way in..

I did take some video of the rocker install...want a copy???

Well....have fun...it's alot of work...it took me about 24 hours...to do both sides.

If I were you....I'd get some 2"x4" rectangle tube...and weld that in...
That's what I did with my trail rig.

Thanks for the great info. Now I can order the parts. Do you think it was worth doing instead of buying a new cab? If you got the vid let me know how you can send it. Thanks.

Well...being in the "Rust Belt" it's hard to find a cab for under $800...
My cab...resto was about $150.
It takes about 24 hours to change over a cab...so as far as time goes...
I broke even...so...I saved at least $400.

Also..you can make the cab rockers strong than stock..better for the trail.

I have some raw video...that needs edited..I could send...are you in a hurry??

No, not really. The truck is sitting for now. I just want to start before the Spring comes. I have alot more work to do to the truck but I wanted the body done first.
