Cab Corner Rust (upper)

so I have zero rust on the truck and boy did I have a surprise when I took the top off for the first time.

Any ideas here? Is this common?

What to do to fix the issue?

It looks like there are rust bubbles all along the edge of the roof where it meets the top and some kind of seam sealer along the drip rail ... or does it just look that way on the pic?

I don't know the history as I am not the original owner but everything looks pretty factory...

It can happen, water gets past the seal and then sits, causing corrosion over time. If the top doesn't get removed, then it doesn't ever dry out, and corrosion forms.

If that's the only place there is rust, you can try to patch it. Many people consider cap corner/windshield pillar rust to be a death knoll and end up replacing the cab. If the rest of the body is really good, it might be worth fixing.

yup... try to look inside at much as possible, rust up high can kill a rig... I scrapped my 77 due to it...

trim that back plenty to solid metal.. treat, remove as much rust from the inner structure as you can...

I've done WAY worse patching than that.. take your time with a couple well thought out pieces, and it can last a long time...
