Has anyone ever put a roof rack on their cab of a K5? Im still leary about drilling thru the fiberglass topper. I dont need a big long rack, just something to carry more gear and to act as a light bar.

Im not thrilled about the gutter mount type stuff, If I could find a decent design I wouldnt mind hardmounting. What I thought about was hardmounting some tracks and then putting a rack on there, so I could take it off if need be.

If anyone did this, can you post pics, esp how you mounted inside, etc.

Thanks

Foof. For that kind of money you can buy a welder and make it yourself however you want.

Im more concerned about the mounting and drilling thru the roof. That is my first priority at this point, the rack itself isnt a big deal.

DirtyLarry on 67-72chevytrucks, i think hes a member here too. Its on a short bed camper shell, but fiberglass like the k5 tops.

I mounted one on the fiberglass. 6 points with 4 bolts in each of the 6 points. Pretty sturdy. Not sure how much weight I had up there from time to time but it could easily hold a couple large guys.

I built this roof rack for my buddy. that was 6 years ago? Anyways, it easily holds a boat and a bunch of other gear safely. Mounted solely to the fibreglass hardtop, but extends out over the steel half cab.

i bought a k5 with what looked like stock roof racks and i have another design tht is removable and slips in under the cap when you put it on. i'll post some pics of one or both tomorrow if you want.

Zip ties and PVC pipe?? My Blazer has a roof rack from what looks to be a station wagon. Looks like its been on there for a long time. Three wing nuts fastening each rail, but there is a small plate for support (dunno what they are called). All mounting points are in the fibreglass, and I don't see any cracks.
