Anybody seen one or know where to get one. I'm gathering ideas for my custom console, and I'd like the t-case shifter to be mounted in it. It'll be tall enough so that the floor shifter would be useless.

It shouldn't be too hard to adapt something , the lever on the case is NOT gated or anything , it just rotates .

The original shifter has a stop so you have to go to the side and down for 4 low .

So maybe some kind of auto car shifter backwards with cable out the front , with you making the bracketry , and using the stop and lift it for reverse to go to 4low . You could weld up the extra gear stops so 2nd and 1st are 2hi and 4hi , lift over neutral for 4 low , and park is gone .

Just thoughts . Don't know if I am even on the right track .

Actually you could be right... I thought about it more and a car-style automatic tranny shifter could possibly be the right thing to start with, and then adapt it as needed.

When I move the shifter, I feel it 'click' into position. Are those clicks the shifter itself or is that in the t-case?

It will click in the case , shifter will move free with rod disconnected .

Well if that's the case, then any free-moving cable shifter should work, just need the appropriate bracket fabbed up to fit the case.

You still have to have something that prevents 4low from just happening at any speed . Thats why the factory has the little stop you have to go past .

I should of said shifter is free except for that .

What about an auto-tranny shifter that requires a button to be pressed in to change to ANY gear?

I'd like to make one for my tcase because I've had trouble with it ever since I clocked it. Although I'm hoping I solved the problem because I noticed the speedo cable was routed between the linkage and the floor pan. That might have been causing some of my issues.

I think NWF can make one. They were talking about them on Xtreme4x4 this weekend and commented they can make a cable shifter for "any" transfer case. :dunno:

I was think a person could make their own plate to operate the shifter and keep it from accidentally going into 4lo.

Nothing yet. I ended up having to swap in a new tranny & tcase, so I haven't had a chance to do anything creative.

Interesting that this came back up. I'm trying to figure out how to build a cable shifter for the 241 I just put in the K5. I already have a B&M Truck Megashifter controlling the tranny. I was pondering getting a second one and modifying it for the tcase. Would make for a cool twin stick type look.

Anyone else have some ideas?
When I was in High School I had an '86 Cutlass Salon(trim upgrade to the supreme) it had a console shift, ran by a cable. IIRC the cable was about 12" long, maybe more. So build your custom console use your shifter and stop plate, attach the cable, fab some brackets. Good To Go!
