I currently have a 1979 Chevy Short Box 4x4 and with a 350ci/TH350. I was wondering if anyone has done a Cad 500 swap and also putting a 4L80E in behind the 500. I have been mulling over this idea for awhile and was just wondering if anyone has done this and how hard it would be???????? any ideas would be cool

Ben

The swap is pretty easy, you just need to make motor mounts. I have no experience with the 4l80E so I can't help you there.

shoot...not to mention the big $$$ for the stand alone comp for the tranny...

thank you guys you just affirmed what i thought would be the main problems. any ideas were to find cad 500's and also how much $$$ they cost.

alright you guys make this sound like its gonna cost me a million dollars:wink1: but really how much would it cost for the tranny and everything to get it running?? So my other thought is would it be more cost effective to just get a standered TH400 and put a gearvendors on it???

The trans you can get out of the salvage yard for wutever you can manage, the adpter plate is about 150 buck's, the controller is around 500 I think. SSo you are looking at 1000 to 1500, plus your motor and miscellanious.

Gearvendors are alot more, and if you got the standard th400 you would still need either the adapter plate, or the BOP case.

Ok say he yanks a 4L80 out of a truck from the junkyard...is it possible to get the computer as well? Obviously you wouldn't need it to do everything but is it possible to run the computer as a sort of stand alone system just running the transmission? How does the computer in stock trucks shift w/ the 4L80's?

It goes off the VSS, TPS, and I don't know what else so no, the computer wouldn't run it. He would need the TCI controller, or whatever else is out there.

Yeah...figured that was too easy of a solution...

The stand alone systems are like $1000+...how much is a full manual valve body for a 4L80?

Well, it's not just the valvebody, but you'll also need a nice shifter. I'd go reverse manual valvebody and a B&M shifter with reverse lockout.

Yeah I looked 6 months or so ago and thats what I saw...all in the $1,000+ range...but with anything I'm sure it depends on what options and who you get it from...

does anybody know where to get a 4L80E complete with computer any anything else i'll need to get it to run in my 79??? i looked around a little and couldn't find anything really. could you guys let me know where if you find anything

Thanks
Ben
