Caddy Caliper and rotor question...

I just checked my rec't from 3/11/06.

Part# pa 7563497 184117 $38.99 & Part# pa 7563505 184116 $29.99, plus a $10 core charge on each. I did use a friends shop resell account.
I was a few bucks off but only by $30 total.

Cadillacs Only charged me a cash price of $34.13 for the arms and springs. 3/22/06

I wont doubt you got them at that price, but it's not what they are quoting on there site and you got one extremely good deal. I suggest you give your parts manager a reach-around for that price.

To close this off, I went to AZ, Discount, Oriely, Advance Auto and then napa before I found someone that accually had the calipers. I paid $147.00 for the rebuilt non loaded calipers for a 78 eldo. Then I had to get the springs, arms, and nuts.

If I made any suggestions in this thread its:

A: keep the drum brakes

B: if you really want to convert to disc, go with TSM

C: buy rebuilt calipers and enjoy

That said I have a set of rebuilt 78 eldo calipers that are on hold with a user here. They are his for the asking.

I have converted my 14bff to disc using TSM and love them.

Now I have to make a drink for mysellf.

bye bye!

Who would've ever thought that 76-78 caddy Eldo calipers would bring so much grief. :D

Hey Tim, since I am going to attempt to finish rebuilding mine this weekend can I pick your brain about one small part of the caliper and how the part goes together. Minor question but it could make a difference in performance. I may have to take a pic of part and ask which way it goes back together. Do you mind?

Ask away brother!! I can post a pick of mine if that would help too. I never install the arms or springs but I'm sure there is a photo of how they go on at a site on the web.

Check out this thread as well.

I agree. But, when someone says they can get $400+ in parts for $80 bucks on the daily I wanna get me some too! Even if I don't need them! :eek1:

OK. Here's my question. I'll post pics if need be to make more clear.

It is about the way the washers and "bushings" go back together on the ebrake portion.

I have the caliper all painted and ready to go. after I stick the spiral threaded stud that the piston rides on throught the inside of the caliper the other standard threads stick through the hole in the caliper. when I tore the caliper down there was not a piece (thin, transparent washer) that was not on the original caliper but did come with the rebuild kit. Essentially, I unbolted the nut from the ebrake lever, too the lever off, and between the lever and the caliper housing was the rubber coated washer that goes between the lever and the caliper. Now I believe the thin transparent washer goes in there somewhere, but where? Does it go between the caliper and the rubber coated steel washer or between the rubber coated washer and the ebrake lever? Do I need to post pic for clarification? Thanks guys.

The only thing I see is black rubber that comes through the hole the bolt comes through. The hex deal the lever connects to and these two washer that would go over the lever.

The teflon washer goes on last. The rubber "washer" is the seal and the teflon washer allows the lever to move freely without damaging the rubber seal.

Cool thanks tim and scott. I just met an old time guy who was recommended to me buy a local parts store and he told me the same thing. That little rubber coated washer actually has a formed little shallow "cup" that the teflon washer fits into nicely and he mentioned that the rubber goes on and then the lever rides on top of the nylon washer to help it rotate a bit with out binding. Thanks for bearing with me for three pages of confusion. It's appreciated.:D
