ok well i am pretty sure i want a caddy motor. i heard nothing but great things. weight is low, power is great. now what do i need to know about them. what are problems i should fix. i am looking for 500 or just above hp and 550+ tq. what is typical to get this. can injection be used? also reliabilty and lower the main the better. though i have no problem doing it i just dont want to spend 4 hours under the hood just to take it out for an hour know what i mean... so where do i get one, where is a good spot for parts. im in missouri. ok let me here what you all got to say:bow:

ok so i found a 425 ci with a pontiac 350 for 200 bucks.:D dont need the tranz i will just sell it or junk it, but i know that engine is in the same family as the 472. i also know the block is about 100lbs lighter. is it the same block? can i bore it out and make it a 472 or 500? or this just a big waste of time? and i need to keep lookin?:doah:

Are there no Chevy BBCs in Germany?? :dunno:

Caddy motors are cool, but like anything else....when you start trying to add "goodies" to them the whole cost/benefit thing goes out the window.

From what I've seen, the best play with a Caddy motor is to find a good strong stocker, buy it cheap and run it. Once you start looking for hop-up parts, you are spending the same money (if not MORE) than you would for a more common Chevy Rat motor...

500HP/550TQ isn't really a very difficult target for either the Caddy or a BBC. I guess it comes down to what you find locally, and how much "being different" appeals to you.

:usaflag:

yea i understand what your sayin, i just dont like doing the typical...:D spending a lil extra is ok with me. my truck is at my farm in Missouri, collect parts while im gone then play with them when im home. only have a couple years left then i pcs back to the states somewhere.

hey man thanx for the help!

 No problem ;), there was another site that I had found as well , but, I can't remember the name :doah:

Check out Kerts - ( DIY4X ) re build thread on his K5, he is running a pretty stout caddy engine and IIRC he has one in his dually as well ( I think)

425 is a very similar motor to the 472/500. I don't think you can do quite as much with it though. Seems some stuff just isn't available for the 425.

It has been a long time since I looked at 425 parts in respect to what works and what doesn't with the other two.

Do the research and find out of you really want to work over the 425 or just find one of the others.

My rebuild thread.

472 and 500 are great motors I think they are oiled like Buicks though with the oil pump in the front cover. This causes some problems with the Buicks.

A dang near stock rebuild will net you those torque numbers. Ignore HP with this motor only concentrate on torque. You will get the HP but the torque is what these motors excel at producing and at a very low rpm.
