Caddy Motor, Manual Trans... what do I need to know?

I know nothing about how this works.

If you have info, links, or previous posts for me, please drop them here and I will read EVERYTHING.

I do know about the adapter from Jegs for the Autotrans, will that work on the manual?

Flywheel?
Clutch?
Hydro linkage?

I don't even know what trans I want so input on that is welcome as well.

Who's done it? and what did you use?

As far as I know the only real problem is that the Caddy crank doesn't have a provision for a pilot bushing or bearing...so it'd have to be drilled.

I was contemplating a 500 swap recently never got around to it and sold the motor (needed money)

As said the crank needs to be drilled. Google caddycarlo for his website, has an easy way to drill and he makes a pilot bushing to fit for about $25. You need a flywheel and they ain't cheap, about $375. Wb resources are

i'll vouche on that.

john walker is good to deal w/ when u can talk to him (very busy man) he will burn your ears off. full of useful info & doesn't mind sharing it. i have bought parts from both of them & from al too. al is good to deal w/ also.

never boought from potter, don't really know why cause he is semi local to me.

On Torque Inc's website they have a forum now that he checks into daily....
The one thing I like about Potter is that he has a dyno in his shop, refers to it as his bulls**t meter. It tends to stop the bs.

I've been getting all my Caddy parts from 500cid.com or Maximum Torque Specialties. One in the same. Good guys, fast fast service! Can't say enough about them.

I had originally planned on a .030" bore but one cylinder didn't quite clean up so we went with a .040". MTS swapped out the pistons no prob. The replacement 40's arrived at the shop much sooner than I had expected to see them.

They also cut me a deal on a fly wheel that had been used on thier dyno for a couple pulls. Nothing wrong with it at all. Could have been boxed up and sold for new and I wouldn't have known the difference but they still cut a break.
