Currently building a custom CAI. I have the TBI hat built but am at a bit of a road block deciding what size to make the piping down to the cone filter. The engine is a cammed 350, edy intake, holley TBI, TBI heads, long tubes, dual 2.5" to single 3" outlet. In the future it will end up with vortec heads and a bit bigger roller cam.

Would a 3" intake be enough or is it gonna have to be 4"? I was sorta thinking the smaller the piping the higher the air velocity will be moving through it. I was thinking higher velocity would be better for fuel atomization... :dunno:

What was wrong with the factory snorkel to the core support? It also picks up cold outside air...

aftermarket CAI's are a joke that produce exactly nothing as far as power gains go.

Ya that would be great if I had it. It's an open element right now and I'm not looking for power gain just to eliminate the annoying noise it makes.

There's nothig stock about the whole truck. It's peiced together from several different years and aftermarket stuff. I never had the stock intake to begin with.

If you've got an '81+ core support, just get the right air cleaner.

The stock throttle body flows somewhere around 500CFM @ 3"/HG, you'd want tubing that would support slightly more than that due to flow restriction which is somewhat inevitable. I never measured the stock later intake setup, I'm guessing it's 3.5-4" diameter.
