i was talking to some guys on another forum and told them that i'm going with 15" wheels with my 3/4 ton swap. they said that i will have safety issues. one guy said that he grinded the rear calipers on his truck and the caliper locked up on him shortly after. i tried to tell him that it proabably was not b/c he grinded his calipers but he swears that that's the reason

anyone heard of any brake problems after grinding there calipers?

lol dont listen to those guys ive been running 3/4T gear with my 15" rims for almost a year now and i had to grind a good bit on the calipers to make sure they didnt touch and havent had any problems yet. most likely his caliper was on its way out

If you bleed them and make sure there working properly before you grind them, that will solve a lot of problems. I made sure i had new pads and they worked before i grinded mine that way i wouldnt have to grind some more when i did a brake job. Mine have worked fine since 2003. I have probably the most backspacing you can get on a 15 x 10 (4.25)which means probably the most grinding has to be done. if you get 2.5 backspacing, it requires no grinding.

Oh, btw, mount your tires AFTER you grind the brakes to make them fit. A bare rim is easier to test fit then one with a swamper on it. And masking tape works real good at finding the high spots once your almost there.

yes you have to grind on 3/4 ton brakes as well as 1 ton.

well i'm going with a 15x10 with 4.25" backspace, so i guess i'm going to need to get some extra grinding wheels

just helped a friend last weekend grind to fit 15's on a 3/4 d44

I don't think you will need to grind at all to put 15's on a 3/4 ton front end....

The grinding is for D60's

You will have to grind a 3/4 ton, 8 lg 10 bolt. Its less than a 1/4" off of the caliper and backing plate for 3.5" backspacing. This is for the front.

The rear converting to discs I didn't have to grind at all.

I ran for 3 years with 3/4 ton front and ground down calipers. Have known several poeple who have for alot more years than that. No problems to report. I have heard of Ford guys having problems grinding down those big 2 caliper brakes they have. But have never heard of a Chevy having a problem
