Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

ok i have the new 14blt S/f all done, /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif well except for the last part, putting on the wheels. we have grinded the calipers down a whole lot and my mechanic doesnt want to go any further. the wheels fit but when i turn corners they grind into the wheel pretty bad /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. any ideas?

Re: Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

Turning corners should have nothing to do with it. Tell your, "Mechanic" that he needs to grind until they fit. It's quite a long way until they fit, trust me. It sucks. I'd never do it for someone else just because of the liability. You might just have to do it yourself.

App. how deep is the grind?

Re: Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

yeah like was said the distance betwen the caliper and the rim should be the same turning or not.

Grinding calipers on a rear 14b sf? /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

You don't have to do that on a 14b FF w/disc's..... /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Thats what I was thinking too I am running 15's on a 14bff no grinding at all. What disk setup are you running?

well i'm not sure what the axle came of of but it is 8lug and has some big a$$ braks on it. the 15in rim wouldnt fit until the caliper was ground down. its on there now but it still hits the wheel. its not that bad but it is putting little grooves on the wheel. he said he was trying to get some 1/4 in spacers or something like that. the wheels have 4&1/4 backspacing /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, might explain why they arent fitting, i havent got a chance to go check it out cause ive been busy with finals, but ill be able to go tomorrow maybe i can get a little more info. he also said there was a little spacer that was on old style dodge motorhomes or sumthing that he was looking for at the junkyard.

how far did u have to gind?

Re: Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

I ground until they fit, period. Tons of guys have done it. My wheels are 4 1/8" backspacing and i had to grind for hours!! Yours are going to require even more than mine did.

Re: Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

these are steel wheels, correct?

Re: Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

Nothing else comes in 8 lug 15s but steel.

So lets get this straight...Is this a rear axle with discs? Or a front axle? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

wouldnt a newer one ton have discs? and if so wont they be bigger than a 3/4 ton? i dont know i did the disc brake conversion and all was good. yeah front or rear?

Re: Calipers Grinded but 15\" wheel still doesnt fit, any ideas?

its the rear, its off of a newer suburban 3/4ton i think. i took the truck home today and it grinds constantly, not just turning, so i guess i misunderstood him. anyway i dont have an e-brake now and the brakes suck /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. any ideas on what the next step i should take is. ill be trailering it home on monday, my dad got some 16in wagon wheels to drive it on the trailer. when at home i have a lot more resources. my dad is going to be pissed /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif, so if anyone has any words of wisdom feel free to share.

[/ QUOTE ] grind boy grind. Alright this makes sense now. A rear off a newer 3/4 ton Burban will be designed for 16" rims.

So howd you finally end up on the grinding.. Im thinking of doing the same thing..getting a 76-78 3/4 Pickup and putting 15x8 wheels on it and wonder how much grinding ill be doing on the front calipers. And will the 15 inch wheels clear the drums in the back of the 12 bolt rear..
