Calipers

mine are hooked up for inspection purposes.. they just hit the pedal.. and make sure there is clickeying.. then release.. so i could actually do a spring assisted deal and not even have a ebrake...

but i just ran the cables under the axle.. and clicked it in.. it pulls up against the tube... most likely a bad idea.. im going to fix this right later... they seem to hold ok.... but truck sits in gear in the driveway anyway...

d44 caliper... no ebrake

oh yeah.. you asked where to get cheap... got to look around but they are getting harder to find..

mine are out of a 1976 (76-78 work) cadillac eldorado...

i got mine from www.car-part.com and they were $45 shipped to my door for both with springs and levers!!!!!!!! :thumb:

of course i went and used them as cores from napa and paid $60 each for rebuilt ones... so i paid $165:whistle:

What's with the hard line going to the caliper?

lol ... that was when i had the d44 caliper on there... just took the hard line from the drum piston and it bolted on.. so used it.. drove it that way for a few days.. but then went caddy calipers.. and then also learned why you use rubber ones.. i had no issues but someone else explained to me that the caliper will shift.. and like metal.. work it back and forth and see what happens...

so the 76-78 are the right ones...what is the year for the ones I have? I thought I had 76-78 calipers

not sure...
if you are asking by the links above... i clicked on one and it said
These calipers come from 76-78 Eldorado.

so looks like what i said...

So both links are for 76-78? Why do they have differant brackets for the park brake?

They are not different, the 3121 is missing part of the braket, the 3120 is complete.
If you read the comments on each link you would know that.

****...thats what I get for reading the links while I was at work...Anyone fab those brackets or am I stuck finding a whole new set? Wheres Kurt???

You need to find them used or, buy mine.

Actually, the calipers ARE slightly different. The 3121's are TRUE 76-78 Eldo calipers while the 3120's are using the Fleetwood/Seville bracketry. On the Eldo calipers the bracket for holding the e-brake cable housing was welded to the axle and not attached to the caliper as are the Fleetwood/Seville's.

so how are they attached to the eldorado calipers...I have a set of Seville Calipers with the bracket but they're 5.5" and the bracket is bolted on.

The Fleetwood/Seville calipers i've seen are the same bolt spacing as the Eldo's but the pistons are different which makes them not able to fit over the rotors we use. To answer your question though, you have to drill and tap a hole in the Eldo calipers in order to use the Fleetwood/Seville bracket. Since I haven't paid any attention to the brackets on the 5.5" bolt spacing calipers I can't say if those brackets are the same as the 7" spacing caliper brackets.

That answers my question...the eldo's need to be drilled and tapped...I'll post pics tonight of the seville calipers that are 5.5

heres a pic of the 79-85 seville 5.5" calipers ( No I didn't paint them) bought em on ebay this way for $25 shipped because someone told me the brackets would work...now I know I need to drill and tap the eldorado ones:waytogo:

That bracket is different than the ones used on the 7" spacing calipers. You might be able to make them work but i'm doubtful. Even the lever looks shorter than the ones used on the 7" spacing calipers.

Here are my Eldo calipers with the Fleetwood/seville levers and brackets (from the 7" spacing calipers).
