I have a 72 hardtop on ebay for sale. I always thought it was a double wall. Then I got a message today saying that in fact it is a single wall top, but it is referred to as the "half year top." That it came out the last half of 72 and is in fact a single wall that is the strongest, and lightest of all the 1st gen hardtops. And that they are actually pretty rare. Is this so? I don't want to be wrong on my writeup my listing.

yep looks like a single wall.you can tell by the bolts through the bedrail in stead of from underneath.the double wall was insulated more.i wish i lived closer as i could use this top.mine is a little falling apart.

Definitely a single wall top. The double-wall tops don't have interior dome lights....

I'm not sure that you can say anything conclusively about what year it came from...my understanding is that the both the single and double-wall tops were used in the 69-72 years, with no particular rhyme or reason.

In any case, a single wall top IS the more desireable of the two styles. A "nice" one could fetch $1500...even a battered one might still fetch a few hundred.

Personally, I've stashed away two single wall tops for my own trucks and gave the doublewall tops away for free.
