I remember reading a post where you built up your floor on your 89 to use a 73-75 rollbar. Do you have any pics you could post of your set up? Anyone have any other ideas on this? I don't want pay for a cage. My main reason for the rollbar is to be able to run a bikini top and mount my seatbelts. I had sold my 73-75 blazer rollbar and was going to pickup a 76-91 but can't find one locally. I picked up another 73-75 rollbar today and plan on modifying it to work with my 89. Thanks

Give me alittle time to get some pics. But all I really did was build boxes on the sides out of 1/4" steal the same level as the floor, and only wide enough for the roll bar. Then drilled, and tapped it for the bars mounting holes. And I used 91 pickup seatbelts, with the brackets I welded onto the 73-75 bar. When I did the full-vert conversion, I welded flat stock with 3/4" tapped holes into the body, to use the stock rollbar mounts on the sides. If you need any more info after I get pics, just let me know. Sorry if it took alittle time, I've been buisy.

for my 86, I extended the roll bar by sleaving it, then some butt welds in some drilled holes., reinforced the floor with 3 1/6" steel plate and a brace

And I'm confused, or maybe just don't understand. Why run a bikini top?????? If you want to have something over your head, just have a half top. I'm not saying you are wrong, or trying to be a a$$. But people always ask me why I don't run a bikini. I just tell then, that if I wanted something over my head, I wouldn't have put all the time into a full-vert chop. So I just want to know, why run a Bikini top? Again not trying to be a a$$.

Thanks for the replies Shawn and Skyyk5. Skyyk5 the weather is great about 7 months out of the year you don't need a top out here in az. But come the the next 5 months of 110-115 degree days really sucks with the sun is beating on ya. :doah: That would be cool dude if you could get some pics and I didn't take it like you were coming off like an a$$. Shawn knows what I am talking about the heat here. :angry1: Thanks Again

im confused, the ac in my truck is ice cold?

what heat?
:p:

Shawn your not helping man. :1zhelp: So is mine, but cut your top off your truck and that ac will be worthless in the 115 degree heat. :eek1:

I hear you about the sun. I would leave the top up, but remove all the windows when the Ex was getting hot. I never tried my ac yet. I try to run full toppless every second I can, between the rain and cold here.

I'm going to try to snap some pics today. But I carpeted the boxes to match. I'll also look through the old pics from my build and see if I have any of the bare boxes. Because of rust I had put 1/4" steel on the side of the body, and the floor were the boxes were going to be. Then welded the boxes onto that.

No problem with the pics skyyk5. Don't have to start pulling up carpet or anything. If you have pics cool if not thats cool too. I think I can follow what you did. :eek1: Thanks again.

I didn't get to find the pics from during the build. But here is what they look like now. I'll keep looking for the build pics. Sorry it took so long.

Thanks skyyk5 thanks for the pics. Do you have any issues with putting your hardtop on? Does it touch the rollbar at all? Thanks

The top does not touch the bar. But yes I have problems putting on the hard top. I would never bother with the hard top again, I'm thinking of selling it. It takes forever to line up, and I still do not like the fit. I seem to do more damage to the truck putting it on, then if I just ran the soft top year round.

My rollbar came from a 77k5, this is how I mounted mine. There is plenty of clearance between the roof (about 1.5")

Awesome , I needed to see that before I went through the trouble of trying to fit mine . I scored the 73-77 front rear section like that already . If I pick up the rear section , I can tie them together later :thumb:

That,s the rear section turned around backwards, it looks pretty cool with the top off. right behind the cab.
