I picked up a Blueprint 5.7 that was new locally. I'm getting ready to toss on a set of vortec heads and a matching tpi intake. I have a set of GM 1010517 composite head gaskets that are .028. Pistons are all real close at .015 in the hole. As best I can tell, compression should be right at 10:1. This is going to replace the tpi swapped goodwrench 350 thats already in my 74 K5. Not trying to move mountains but enjoy a nice flat torque curve. Sticking with the 465 and will probably stay with 31x10.5 for rubber. I have two new GM cams that I've been dragging around forever, 14097395 and 10185071. Both are step nose rollers. Currently running a Painless MEFI4 with no issues. I live in Boulder at a base altitude of 5400 ft. Any thoughts on cam choice? Any one have first hand experience with either?

Yeah the 071 is the same as they used in the ZZ series engines. It’s has served me well in my k10 (essentially a zz6 Efi)

It’s a bit too conservative for my tastes, with 196 duration at 50. It’s not enough air IN on the intake, especially at this altitude




All around I think you may find power by using something else, but that 071 will be a really good cam, and it’s already paid for

I agree with @Bent77 , that 7395 is too small. Yet it has such a slow ramp speed (it has a rather large ADV duration relative to its dur @ 050) and tight LSA it will likely idle rougher than the 071. Its like the 7395 is wide where you don't want it to be and small where you want it to have more lift. The 071 opens much quicker and is a little more modern design with likely more power and TQ and a better idle, I would definitely go with it if I was choosing between the two.
