I have an 88 K5 Blazer and I will be swapping in a 454 bored 30 over with flat top pistons, ported and polished 781 heads with roller rockers and I dont know what cam is in it so I was thinking of buying a cheap summit cam for it but dont know which one to get, I have a stock tranny and it will be a daily driver and will see most offroad time in sand dunes so I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with these cams and which would be a good selection for my application, thanks in advance....

A little more info would be beneficial:
computer control?
Carb, TBI, MPFI?
axles and gears?
tire size?
intended rpm range?
roller cam or flat tappet?
700R4? (that'll need some attention soon too)

it has an older weind intake and will have a qjet carb, tire size is 33s and I dont know the gear ratio just yet but it will eventually have 4.10s oh and its a flat tappet with and has 10b axles...

dual plane intake I assume, how bout intended rpm range?

Ya its dual plane as for rpm range well I'm not sure but it wont see much more than 5k when at the dunes...

I think I'm going with the Comp Cams XE268 anybody have any experience with these? Btw, the heads are fresh so everything is new so I just need the Cam....

ive used the 268 grind on many small blocks, but never on a BB

Its a very streetable cam, likes a little compression(9:1 and up) and great all around for here( high elevation)

i feel it works good for mild builds and fun off road use

My friend has the 268 in his 454 K30. He runs a 36" TSL's, 4.10 gears, stock convertor w/th400. Pulls hard. He had some 38" TSL's also and it worked well with those tires to. Mostly mud/snow wheeling. He has lots of dd miles on it too. Great all round cam.

I have the 262 cam in my 454. It poops out alittle sooner but is also great. I run it with 4.10, TH400, 39.5" TSL's. Lots of low end torque. Love it.

ordered the comp cams xe268 should be here early next week so hopefully have the truck on the road by next weekend......

Sounds like a great choice considering your application, but no lifters???? I think you may be asking for trouble without them. How bout cam breakin grease (should be supplied with cam) and some break in lube for the oil? With flat tappets, there isn't really any on the shelf approved oil for them any more.

The cam and lifters are new in it right now I just dont know what cam it has right now thats why I'm getting this new cam so I know what I have, I also orders some trick flow engine break in additive aswell so hopefully it turns out well

If those lifters have been run on that installed cam, DO NOT run them on a different cam. in the very near future they will fail, they are like a ring and pinion...a matched set. Each lifter should only be used on the lobe it was broke in on.

lifters have never been run, the engine is a fresh rebuild and has never been fired up, thats why I passed on the new lifters.....
