I have a 305 that come from a 91 Caprice. Running the TPI intake. I'm running OBD2. Has a 96 truck ECM.

My question is if I swap the cam to the 305 vortec cam(which is the same as the L31) and have the ECM flashed for the 305 vortec. This should give me a good baseline to get it running better than it is. Is now running the stock caprice cam and the ecm is tuned for a 350.

Does that sound right or am I over thinking.

Not sure what you have there.A 305 with a pcm tuned for a 350 is that correct?..Why would you do that?..My system is driver tunable and comes with a base line set to a 350 and needs to be enrichened by 12% for the global fuel to compensate for the 406 I am using it on.So if I understand you right having a 305 tuned for a 350 would be too rich. That said getting the pcm re flashed sounds like a step in the right direction. But if you are getting it re flashed now would be a good time to look a your options for what cam you really want to use as far as power and application expectations.
