Camaros *Now Camaro*

Thanks! I've almost got more than I can handle. Need to let a few go, but can't bear to part with anything. Don't want to let the t-top go, but it's not as fun to drive as the ugly car and I don't want to mess it up swapping motors or anything.

Haha, wow, blast from the past. Friend in HS (95-97 time frame) was from a big GM owning/modifying family and he had a late 80's IROC-Z. Red with...gray?...and a 350 and automatic. I didn't have many classes in school with him but we went to the same church and many times four or five of us piled into the IROC and skipped Youth Group.:D He had a 'bangin' system in it and I remember the pipes also sounding really nice.

Oh, and the wagon...again, memories. Good friend had a '78 Malibu wagon. 350 out of a Vette his uncle wrecked and a TH350. Big and littles, forest green paint (hey, it was the 90's), and loud. He and his dad did all the work in their garage including body work.

Ah, the old days.:thumb:

I saw a red Iroc Z for sale just the other day and thought, thatd make for nice DD. Made me think of this thread.

The IROC and the SS are both sold. The hot rod and the RS are still around. I haven't driven either in quite a while. I actually started the RS the other day and rode around in the yard. It surprised me it actually started!

I need to get that thing tagged this year but I'm running out of summer and been out of money...

The piecemeal 84 SC.

Although I've been considering pulling the suspension off it and put it on my 89 then sell the engine.

I'm thinking more and more about pulling the 84 apart and building a nice driving street car from the 89. Leave the L03, add headers and good exhaust, maybe some Vortec 305 heads and the TBI-Vortec intake and a TPI 305 cam for a little bump in power. Then I think I have some 3.23 gears for the 7.5 at Dad's that would be great with a limited slip in the rear. Add some tubular control arms and new shocks and struts and have a great mostly original driver.

Why mess around with all that old tbi/you/305 crap when (dare I say it) a 5.3/6.0 swap would be better down the Rd?

Not that interested in it honestly. I'm not looking to build something fast, just fun to drive and nice.

The car's already a classic and being a numbers matching L03 car with some upgrades makes it more unique. Plus the thing gets like 25-30MPG with cruise and A/C going as it is.

Gotcha. Didn't realize that it was still original engine.

Just drive it and have fun.

Been doing some looking on options for the little 305. I'm thinking about getting the Moates all in one unit that'll burn proms, emulate, and log and I guess get started on learning to tune some this summer. It'll be an excuse to drive and modify the car.

I've been reading and I think a LT1 cam, an injector pod spacer, and a set of headers with the Borla exhaust I have on a parts car at Dad's house and the 3.23's will be a good start. If it was a factory TPI car, I'd probably look at going with a LS computer but I don't want to change this car that much. Just squeeze a little more umph out of it.

If this all works out ok, I might look at putting TPI on my other car down the road instead of parting it out right now. But I don't know because I'd like to cut down on projects..... But I hate to see a good hard top body get scraped or turned into a dirt track car.

Is it my civic duty to save EVERY third gen Camaro I come in to?!?

Damnit I should not have started looking into this now... I've found so many neat things to just improve the L03 performance.

I guess I'll start with the maintenance stuff first and get it back in shape. Then it'll be time to start making changes this spring after it's running good.

Assuming it's already running well, the first thing I always do is advance the timing to 10-12° btdc. They really come alive! The injector pod spacer works too.

The LO3 was an underrated engine. A few little tweaks here and there, in a great handling car such as a third gen, they are plenty of fun to drive and get good highway mpg too. If auto, a good shift kit in the 700r4 adds to the experience as well.

I like the little engine fine. I was going to bump the timing and a few things.

Well, it looks like the hot rod 84 might be sold. Dad had a guy interested in the drive line and he offered me what I was willing to take for the whole car so he's SUPPOSED to be buying it.

Gonna roll that money into the 89 T-Top car to get it up to snuff. I'm thinking about 3.42 gears on a True-Track, sub frame connectors to keep that t-top body square, new shocks and struts, and then start looking at where to go from there. I need to have the BOSE system rebuilt. The speakers are dead and it could use a revamp. I'll need a decent stereo as well, the Wal-Mart SONY isn't getting it done.

I'm thinking about doing a couple things to that little 305 just to bump it up a touch. Maybe a TPI MT 305 or LT1 cam, headers, and then maybe play with some PROM tuning.

I dunno... Gotta replace all the hoses on it first, it's weeping antifreeze out the cords on the radiator hoses as we speak. It also needs a real tune up and a few other maintenance things.
