Any idea how I can fix? Anyone got experience with early 2000 Toyotas? My CEL is on, runs good but has a funny idle at times, plus it will need smog sooner or later.

Idears? :D

I was hoping that too but since getting the CEL I've filled up several times already. I cleared the codes this morning and have maybe 10 miles of street driving since. No CEL yet :D

My Mom's car would do the gas cap some times, but the light would go out after the next gas fill up. hmmmm

Check the vacuum hose and connector at the solenoid mounted on the air box, a disconnected hose/connector will cause all three of those codes. If it is connected then replace that solenoid. It is called a canister closed vacuum switching valve.

I'm talking about a bad gas cap, not a loose one.

In reality it can be any part of the sealed fuel system including all the hoses that run up to the engine or even an EVAP sensor itself. If you can't find anything loose or broken the next step is usually a smoke test.

So far I've been ok. I cleared the codes a few days ago and they haven't come back. Or the check engine light is out.....

if the light comes back on i would look into a purge valve for it. The last code is just stating you have evap problem but with other 2 codes leads me to believe the valve is going bad. If you where local I could smoke it and put tech stream on it which is Toyota's scan tool off my laptop and see if that model would let me run the evap test or control individual valves on and off while hand is on it to see if you could feel it opening.

I see a lot of rotted gas filler necks cause "EVAP" symptoms around here too,it only takes a small flake of rot to make enough of a hole and "leak" to disrupt the evap system...you may not notice gas leaking either, perhaps a odor of raw gas sometimes..
