im rebuilding my 350 currently, pretty much a stock rebuild, stock heads, basically a bore and freshen up. im looking for a camshaft but i cannot grasp the duration and lift concept, would Duration 262/272, Lift .420/.442 be good for my type motor. i know theres probably alot of variables you need to know about my motor, but the motor is nothing special, just a dd lookin for a little extra power. people talk about a "RV" cam, what duration and lift would yall recommend?

with that lift it sounds like the duration is gross duration (@the seat) what are the @.050 measurements.
I have put cams in 350's for smooth idle that have about .450 lift, and 210-220 duration @ .050. Comp Cams 260 and 268 are pretty good for making more power with a relatively smooth idle on stock engines.

that would be the duration, personally, I would try for a little more lift though. Are you having any headwork done? That is really where the power is at.

well instead of trying to describe the cam, here's a link, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-1102/ i was planning on going with a comp or edelbrock cam, but the guys @ summit said their cam is a reboxed edelbrock (he may have said comp, basically a reboxed name brand) so i figured since im on somewhat of a budget, it would work.... suggestions?

well you seem pretty set on this cam, just make sure use a break in lube, and to run an oil made specifically for flat tappet cams.

as far as i know, there is no oils for flat tappets other than maybe some racing oils. however, redline sells engine break in additive.

my understanding is that it will provide the zddp content needed to help flat tappets live with API SM oil.

I agree Rotella was recommended up until recently, but double check Rotella now, as they have reformulated and zinc was (or is going to be) removed. I was told this by our oil supplier and they advised me that their new stock of Rotella does not have zinc. :(
You may have to get the break in additive.
