Hey everybody the manual window regulator on the pass side in my 75 works just fine and has no issues but the part that sticks through the door panel where the window crank is attached to is stripped. I got 2 new window cranks since the one from that side was stripped on the inside as well. My ? is with the new window crank can the spot on the regualtor be fixed/rigged using jb weld, gorilla glue, actually welding some new metal on the part itself and filing it down, etc etc. I have no issue getting a new regulator but this is the only thing thats wrong with it and I feel with some creative thinking it can be fixed. Any input would be great. Heres a pic (sorry its not that good) so you all can see what im referring to. Thanks

I do have a small pair of vice grips on there but would like the interior to look nicer with a little tlc. I guess it's my OCD that's wants my truck to look somewhat nice.

hahaha! ive been running vice grips for a couple of years now. i have thought about using jb weld (or some other variant) just never got around to trying it.

if you do find a good fix to this let us know

I think you have to replace teh regulator if you are that picky. Those splines take a lot of torque.

Unless you weld some sort of a crank directly to it, then mount a plastic handle over it to cover it up......
But then your door panel is f'd when you have to remove it.

if you can grind the regulator splines off and grind a flat, you could make a female receptecle for your handle that would mate to it. The regulator splines are just weak and it's a high abuse area.

Mine is the same on the driver's side. I found a generic replacement crank that has two set screws. I made indents for the set screws to grab to.

I'm too lazy to replace the regulator. It runs about $50.00 from Rock auto (the last time I checked).

in high school I had a 66 chevy pu. I was redoing the interior, and when i went to get the window crank off, someone had ran into the same problem you have. They Jb welded the damn thing on. I couldnt get this thing off for the life of me, until i talked to an old timer about it. I guess heating it up with a torch brakes down jb weld. After spraying my interior, I just jb welded a new one back on. Its still holding up 12 years later says my buddy i sold it to who still drives the truck
I use the crap out of jb...

Yeah, that J-B weld putty stuff will "weld" it on ,but it does ake any future repairs a real pain...

I have replaced just that splined shaft by taking off the door panel and drilling rthe rivets out of the cover that holds it into the regulator--I found that most vehicles of the same make use the same gear and splined shaft, and we'd rob the ones off the rear of a 4 door version, that rarely get used much and are usually in good condition--you'll need to use screws or pop rivets to put the cover on again, and I'd put some aheel bearing grease on the gear while its apart too..

I had the same problem on my regualtors

SOLUTION:
weld a nut there and use a ratch worked for me for a round a year

I like it! I will give that a shot if i ever have problems.

Well I gave the jb weld trick a try and it worked great. Hopefully I don't have to make any door repairs soon as I checked everything out (I know **** happens but fingers crossed lol) before putting it on.
