Hey y'all! I've been looking for a soft top for my Jimmy for the past year. Well, there seems to not be much out there. :( BUT, there may be a glimmer of hope! Can-Back is supposed to be coming back out with their 76-91 Blazer/Jimmy top again!!! Go to: http://www.can-back.com/ to see some pics. I talked with a rep and he said it will be about 2-3 months before the top comes out. They are currently working on a Bronco top, then the 76-91 Blazer/Jimmy top development is next. On their website, you can sign up to be notified when there is news about the top, I just signed up! If more people will sign up, that'll show them peoples' interest is high in this top!

So, my mind-set is, yeah the top is a lot of money ($1300 projected price) BUT, it is a VERY nice top, very beefy (you can get a roof rack package that will support 300lbs!). I figure, I want to buy one the second it comes out, get it while the getting's good! AFAIK, there's no other canvas style soft top out there currently in production for 76-91. I am even thinking about buying two just to have a back-up for later on down the road!

Does anybody want to get it on a group buy with me when these tops come out? Buying as a group may bring the price down a little bit. It's an awesome top! Heck, if enough of us go in on it, the may be able to cut a good deal, ya never know! ;) I'm gonna buy myself a top (or two) either way!

Still waiting for them to go into production. Its sure been a loooooooooong few months.

:doah: Sorry about that, I didn't remember about that previous thread. Thanks! Well, at any rate, I hope the tops do come out soon! I wonder if everybody on here that wants one bought as a group what the pricing would be? BTW, nice pic! :haha: It has been a long time, hasn't it!

Edit: I just noticed, I even responded in that previous thread, and didn't remember! :doah: Guess I got too hyped up from hearing that (supposedly ) it'll only be a few more months 'til I can get my dream soft top! :thumb:

i DID Not read the previous thread then again maybe I did. But I would be in on the group buy. Let me know when this gets started and what it does for pricing

I'm down for the group buy. I thought they where supposed to be out in january of this year. I do hope they come out soon.

I may be interested in a group buy. I did just put my name on the lsit and checked group buy. :thumb: Now let's see what happens. It does say 1st Qtr of 2008 for the 76-91 blazer.

So is a group buy when we all chip in for one and share it through out the year? HAHHAHA

:haha: At the price, hmmm... :D

But seriously, if we get 10 people to buy 10 (maybe 11 if I buy two) tops, I really think they ought to be able to give us some kind of a good discount. The more people the merrier! I wonder how much discount if we bought 100? Hmm.... come on people, let's get this goin! :waytogo:

so i just got off the phone with them and they havent even started building the frames for them yet the guy i spoke with said there out about 2 weeks before they star those then they will start calling people on the list

Ive talked with them about 3 times since January. Then it was supposed to start production in April and be shipping in May. They must be seriously working off a cheap budget. I too discussed a group buy with him at that time and he sent me his info and mine to him. Im kind of dissappointed on how "off" their predictions are on manufacturing these tops. I will post up for sure when I hear something. Thanks, Ryan

We talked through some details on these and the deal was to sell at least 10, which would give everyone a 100-150 dollars off the top. This equates to 10-15%. Could get more of a discount the more people go in. Still we are talking about a grand a pop, and while I think its a worthwhile investment, thats still a lot of money to get a lot of people to spend. Granted he also mentioned trying to work out a 7-10 year warranty.

No I dont have one, I need one!!! Honestly though, Im ordering one as soon as production starts. Bryon is the guy I have been talking with and he actually got me last night. He said the reason production fell behind is their metal bender was inadequate in bending the frames without constant human supervision because of the errors it was putting out. Maybe a calibration problem but it was an old machine. That got a new pipe and metal bender and have already started the prototype frame. Now according to him, he forsees an August shipping, but he honestly told me hes trying his hardest to have them out by July. He is determined to have the soft top design perfect, and does not want to sacrifice the quality. He does know, however, that there is a lot of interest in the K5 tops, just as much as Broncos or what not, so he will give every effort to keep production on time or ahead of schedule. I will keep all you guys in touch, trust me. Me and Bryon have talked several times about the interest on this site especially. I have arranged some details for a grou[ buy back in February and he still says that it is defintely doable once production comes. I will have everything hammered out by then and will post up the group buy when they are ready. PM with any other questions you might have or want to ask Bryon or even suggestions. Thanks!

Cool deal! Ryan, thanks for all the info man! I know I am definitely going to buy one, I've got the money set aside for it and everything! :waytogo: Now, I just have to decide whether I should buy two (to have a spare in case anything should happen to the first). I am seriously considering buying a spare. IDK, but anyways, definitely gonna get at least one top! I can't wait 'til these come out!

man, Ive been hyped ever since I found out there was one company left (actually they closed due to a bad fire and just reopened last year) making soft tops for K5s. I think buying two would be a good idea if you have the money. Guys on here have sold their old Kayline or STC tops for what they paid for them back in the day. These are a rare commodity and whos to say Can Back might close in a year or so like many of the other companies. I will buy one this summer and maybe another one around Christmas or so. I will keep everyone in touch. I made this a personal campaign since January and I am not letting up on poor Bryon. Ive sent him half a dozen emails since then and about 4 phone calls!
