I'm curious to see what people say, I'm guessing it's an assembly fixture so you could cut it.
Hack away, it serves no purpose important to transmission function, It is to aid in lifting or securing the transmission to a fixture.

That's your transmission, I want to remove it for the shifting linkage, less bends in the rod the better/stronger!
