Can I de rate coil springs ?

That doesn't sound like a good idea. By heating it up it gonna be all messed up "Internally" ( Drawing a blank on the proper term:o). If you don't heat both springs evenly they are gonna ride different. Etc...

Cheap and Hack job are not the same thing. You can find cheap lift coils out there.

Heating a spring will make it lose its temper and the spring will sag BIG TIME.

Thats what i want soft ride I am not intending to use these to "lift" Iand I cant get lift springs for something that never had springs.

The springs will continue to sag until the coils touch each other. I've unintentionally done this years ago.

Why make them longer (by stretching them, as previously mentioned, a bad idea) and then cut them shorter?

Any idea on what kind of spring rate you want? Its easy to get coils from Jeeps for free but they are WAY soft (150-200 lbs/in)

No

It wont work the springs wont be springs anymore after you heat them
You can however call sprin manufaqcturs and have them help you with an off the shelf spring. tell them the weight, diam, length you want and what your doing and I guarentee you get what you need, Eibach is one Energy suspension, TRW, Moog, just look around its not really that hard to do what your doing with off the shelf parts ;)

I dont think those jeep springs 100-200 in lbs would support my chevy these are from a 3/4 ton ford and i would like them about the lenthg they are just softer.

I agree. I'm suggesting that you find some different springs. Aftermarket Grand Cherokee might be worth looking into, they aren't too much (say, $150 a pair new).

Otherwise, just find some coils from something else in the junkyard. Just about any vehicle will have softer coils than what you have now.

I used to stretch coil springs for demo derby cars with a wrecker boom, chain the bottom of the spring to the bed and the top to the boom and extend the boom.......not the smartest of ideas.......

all it does is make the spring taller and stiffer, and you want neither......i would look for some springs from the rear of a Jeep.....

Your theory is completely wrong. Stretching out a coil spring and then cutting coils off will greatly increases how stiff they are.
