I can get a good 2wd th400 for $175...Can I do anything with it? Is there a way to mount a t-case on the back? If its fairly simple/inexpensive to convert it, I'll go pick it up. Or should I wait for a 4wd one?

Sure can, I have a 2wd version in my truck right now. Most of the 2wd's have the same output length as some 4wd's, so just need the right adpator. If you have a figure 8 style, then you can bolt it on and go. I have a 208/241 adaptor, and a 2" thick spacer I got from MEK5 with the Ford round 6 bolt pattern. Works like a charm.....

Here is a chart for the outputs...

You will need an output shaft for a 4wd transmission, the're shorter than a 2wd model. That means gutting the trans to swap shafts. Gaskets and seals run about fifty bucks if thats all it needs. I bought a shaft from a board member here, cost me forty bucks (thanks to The Drip:D) After that its just some time to swap the shafts, maybe 5~6 hours depending on your skills and tools. Hope this helps.

If you have the bolt on yoke style ouput, and it's 9 1/4" long, then you don't need to swap outputs. Only difference is the length of the splines and a hole at the end....

i have one also will a 208 off of a th400 fit the 2wd 9 1/4 shaft th400 it has 4.5" inches sticking out past the case and 2.5 to 2 7/8 of it threaded, cause those fiqure 8 205's are hard to find and pricy

Subscribing, I posted this same question a while back I'll try and post the link for the responses...

How would I go about putting a 203 range box on the back of it?

Not gonna have the wheelbase for a divorced setup.

Depends. I had a 9.25" 2wd shaft that was previously used with an NP208. I dropped it in and went to bolt up my NP241 using a TH400 to NP241 "short" (heightwise) adapter, and the shaft was an inch or so too long.

Hmm, I was just at the HAD shop on Friday and remembered that Jesse had a 465 with 208 adapter already bolted to it for pretty cheap...After reading that ORD link, the wheels are turning...again! :haha:

465/203/lomax 205..with 4.56 gears, crawl ratio would be 179.2:1 :eek1:

Pretty hard to get anything done with all this stuff to think about.
