Can I put a T56 behind a 6.2 in a 2wd Pickup or Sub?

I vote yes on proposition t-56

the only differance is the vipers and maybe vets too had heavy duty syncros

The Viper T56's have different gear ratios and is rated for more torque (at least in past years).

I have read on the truckperformance.net site that they can not even with stand the weight and stress under a 2000 1500 X-cab. So I would think that a sub out of the question.

nope, the camaro/vette/viper t56s are all the same, with exception to hardened synchros as well as a hardened shift fork that come in the viper alone...they are rated for more torque because of the hardened synchros and forks let you bang through the gears and allow it to take more abuse..............now the new corvette c6z06.........that might come with the viper prepped tranny if they come with a stick....not sure about that one. and yeah you could get away with sticking any of them behind any 6.2 I have ever seen. There are f-body cars running 10s and quicker on factory t56 trannys over on ls1tech.com. I say go for it, that would be badass, if I had a 2wd oilburner, I would do it.

You can count out any c5/c6 tranny as they are a transaxle type tranny (auto or manual) mounted in the rear of the car.

Z06's only come manual too.

wow, 3 pages!

i wish i had enough money to do this.

I don't understand how to tranny can be abused in a camaro with tons of horsepower and not stand up to a 6.2 with less than half the power. (300hp vs. 150hp) (let's not argue about hp, i'm just making a comparison)

i think a stock one out of a camaro would be fine. i put in 4.56s and some 31s and go.

i wouldn't be using this to tow 10,000 lbs or anything, just light-duty stuff (4 wheeler or something that size)

now for the killer, anybody want to come over and put a 6.2/t56 in a 90 c10 with 262/465 combo?

They put thge T-56 in the SRT-10 pickups with the viper motor in front of it those trucks are bricks probaly compareable to 2wd 1/2ton burb weight wise

The Dodge T56's that come behind the V10's are beefed up compared to the F-body versions. The F-body guys are bending shift forks and tearing up synchros behind mild LS1's with bolt-ons. Theoretically it will work, and with a stock 6.2 you may get one to last, but that would be a lot of time and money to spend to find out otherwise.

Well, in a quick google search (I have never taken apart a T56) I found this:

1993 Corvette: 2.97/2.07/1.43/1.00/.8/.62

2003 Viper (maybe other years as well): 2.66/1.78/1.30/1.00/.74/.50

1994-97 Corvettes and Camaros had the second set of ratios.

The T56 uses a special lighweight 153-tooth flywheel that's matched with the goofy pull-off pressure plate. Not enough mass - IMO it would rattle the trans to pieces.

Centerforce makes a conventional-weight flywheel/clutch kit meant to retrofit on the larger crank flange. I suppose if you went to the trouble of rebalancing it, and could find a 153-tooth starter with enough torque, you might be able to make it work.
