I am considering nixing the heavy rear gate and going with half doors when I take off the top of my 79. I was wondering what truck gate i could use with limited mods.

73-87 You will also need the a small mount for each side. Last time I checked you could still get them from the dealler. They rust out quick because all the paint gets rubbed off and noone greases them. As long as the tailgate side is good, no worries. Both my Blazers already have the holes drilled and tapped for the mounts. It doesn't get more bolt on than that.

The tailgate posts on a pickup and a Blazer are identical from the middle down. I found that out because mine were rotted out on the bottoms so I just used some off of a wrecked truck. It was a b*tch getting the bottom half of the old ones off because of all the cutting required. I welded the bottoms on and ground them smooth and the blazer tailgate worked with that no problem so I would say yes.

I put one on my '79. I got it from a '79 (I think) pickup. It has been the easiest bolt-on I've ever done. Well, right behind the fuzzy-dice air freshners...
